Beverly J. Platt Huffman was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on April 22, 1944, to the union of Walter Sr., and Hazel (Burton) Platt. On May 7, 2023, she returned home to be with our Lord.
Beverly was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church and her grandfather, Rev. Burton, delivered the initial sermon of the church. She graduated from Steubenville High School class of 1962. Her first job was at Isalys in 1963 where she was the first African-American deli server. She went on to work at the Hub Department Store. Later, she attended The College of Steubenville where she received an Associate Degree in Bookkeeping.
After graduating college, she became a librarian at Garfield Elementary and Lincoln Elementary schools. In 1991, she began a career at Jefferson County Children Services where she later retired.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by six brothers Walter Jr., Frank, Robert, James, Merle, and Donald; and one sister Margaret (Platt) Harris.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Solomon Huffman Jr.; two daughters Lisa (Vincent) Hampton of Columbus, Ohio; and Margaret Huffman of Columbus, Ohio. Three grandsons Brandon, Cameron, and Dominque Hampton all of Columbus, Ohio; five great-grandchildren Brandy, Jaylynn, Damerion, Xavian, and Aurielle; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service, noon, at Second Baptist Church, 717 Adams Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.

Hey Dub, and family, this is from Nick, I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked to hear of her passing. I was close to her whole family before most of them passed. Her daughter was in my daughter's wedding when Tinker married Bobby. So sorry that we missed the funeral. We were out of town, attending my grandson's graduation from college and his party along with MOTHERS DAY. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY.

Doubie, Lisa & Margaret, this is one of the hardest things to do, but remember, and I hope this helps...Bev is NOT in pain ANYMORE, and to be "absent from the body is to be present with the LORD". She is walking in green pastures with Grandma. I love you.
