Bill was born on October 5, 1943 to Mildred and William Ardis and raised in Oakdale, CA. He participated in both football and baseball, earning a scholarship to San Jose State. Bill joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity while at San Jose State, developing many lifelong friendships.
After college, he taught and coached at Saratoga High School, as well as numerous youth baseball teams. He made an influential mark on all of those around him with his enthusiasm and passion for the sport. In 1978, along with his brother, Rick, they formed Ardis Orchards and developed an almond and walnut orchard on family land in Oakdale that dated back to 1871. He also taught at Hart Ransom Charter School and was moved by the welcoming environment amongst the teachers, along with the intellectual curiosity of the students.
Bill treasured the poetic music of Bob Dylan; the author Larry McMurtry; Salt Lake City, Utah; the asymmetrical Fenway Park; the beauty of his orchard East of Oakdale; the comedic brilliance of Seinfeld; the Vizsla breed of dog; and summer road trips with the family.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Marnie; son Logan and his wife Megan Ardis; daughter Sloane and her husband Nathaniel Reinke; and four grandchildren; his best friend, Dave Fistolera; plus many well-loved dogs.
On the subject of death, Winston Churchill quotes:
"Curse ruthless time! Curse our mortality. How cruelly short is the allotted span for all we must cram into it!"
