I have been blessed by Bill's radio broadcasts since my college roommate introduced his ministry to me in 1977. I still relish tuning into the broadcasts each night over station WMHR in Syracuse, NY. Bill had as much biblical insight and practical content as anyone I've ever heard or known. A blessed man of God to be sure. And he's surely blessing Heaven right now!

I've recently discovered Bill Pearce Nightsounds listening to KHCB radio network. His content is relevant and so incredibly helpful, even today after all these many years. I've enjoyed reading about Bill, his life and legacy. His recordings bless my life and help me comprehend this life.

Thank you Bill.

Thank you God.

Bill has been an encouragement for me for years. Now my wife also enjoys the program Nighsounds and we listen as we fall asleep nightly. The counsel he offers in the program is exceptional. May theses programs live on till the end of this earth.

I always loved listening to Bill. He had a gentle kind and precious spirit that uplifted me and so many others. It seemed as if he was talking directly to me. The Lord used him to uplift and encourage all who were suffering in many different ways. I´m so blessed to have been able to tune into him and receive mercy, grace, peace and so much more. I´m so thankful I can listen to his tapes each day or night. I pray his program stays on the air. He truly blessed so many in the body of Christ. Resting with Jesus now and at peace.

Our youngest daughter was born in 1977, when she was in her crib at night, I put a radio in her room and played your programs at night, to this day she remembers that. I have a few tapes of your show I made, she would love to have some CDs, but we don't know where to get them. Look forward to meeting you one day in the Kingdom, thank you for all you did for the Lord. My daughter Tens Sue and I, Thomas the believer, Tamblyn

Sweetly nostalgic. That´s my memory of Bill Pierce´s trombone opening and voice intro to "Nightsounds". My wife and I used to listen together on KSGN radio in Southern California after we put the kids to bed back in the 80´s.

I thank God for Bill´s ministry that continues to bless people to this day.

While listening to my local Christain radio station ( WXML) from Upper Sandusky, Ohio, I heard the opening strains of familiar music. I found I was listening to Bill Pearce on "Nightsounds". I was remembering back to the late 60s when my husband was in Vietnam. My mother and I would listen to "Nightwatch", on a local Toledo , Ohio station. No way! I said to myself, as I am now 74 years old. Can't be! So, I did a little search and discovered that it is indeed the same man! What a great ministry and it makes me glad to know that his show is able to continue to be heard in the night when many souls are restless and searching for the truth. All praise to the Lord for enabling Bill to minister to countless thousands during his lifetime and continue after his Home-going!

My family listened to Nightsounds for many years. But I lost track of the programs and hadn´t heard it for a long time. I truly believe the Lord led me back to it last night as I grieve the loss of my younger brother. I am so very thankful for all of the years of ministering Bill did.

It is bittersweet to think about all the people that were touched by Bill's ministry and to only imagine the grief that family, and close friends of Bill, may still experience a great sense of loss, even now. I have no claim to being in that inner circle of his earthly friends and family, but I felt that I got to know him as a brother in the body of Christ. His gentle words of love and compassion helped me to draw close to Jesus, who is with us always and will not ever leave us or forsake us. I believe that Bill has heard the following from our loving Savior and Lord...
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"

I remember listening to Bill and Nightsounds as a young Christian in the mid 70's. The easy listening music and Bill's soothing voice brought the words of home to my hungry heart. I happened to think of that program this evening and was happy to see that it is still available to listen to. I didn't know, until now, that Bill had gone to be with the Lord in 2010. Enjoy heaven Bill and it's wonderful to see that the ministry that you obediently served tho anyone who would listen is still going on and touching more lives than we could imagine. We'll see you soon when we leave this world to live and reign with our Lord Jesus! Thank you for all you did in your service to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

I loved this program Night Sounds as a child. I am a Buddhist but find him to have been a great Light in this world. As a trombonist, I admire his playing.

Just listen to his message on nightsounds titled, leave the light on. It's true I leave my light on outside so my neighbors know someone is out there. Bill Pearce often reminded me things that I had forgotten.
May God bless all the listeners. And I hope that Bill's family does not become sad at the loss of their father. Because he is still here.

I first knew Bill in relation to my father, Pastor Bob Johnson of Park Ridge Bible Church. During my fathers years there as Pastor, I remember Bill coming there to play, and also seeing Bill at a Christian meeting or two where both attended. I'm not sure if Bill came more often to my dad's church, for those years I would have been to young to be sure of that. But in the early years, Glenn Jorian did attend, until leaving to attend South Park Church. His daughter Jan and I went to the same school in junior high.
I so enjoy to this day listening to Bill play so beautifully the instrument he loved so much, along with Bill and Dick Anthony, both through the trombone as well as by voice, as well as the Melody Four Quartet, and The 16 Singing Men, composing the beautiful hymns and Christian songs of days gone by. I also am a fond listener to Nightsounds, a show I believe to be timeless in that whenever listened to, it brings comfort to hearts during good as well as the difficult times we face.
Thank you for providing this space so we can share our love for Bill, and our love for what he did in his years of service unto his Lord.

Bill I have enjoyed every program I listened. I would get home after working in ICU and turn on the radio and go to sleep with your wonderful voice, calming me! That was 1972, I am now retired and 73. I look forward to seeing you in heaven. Thank you,Bill.

I began listening to "Nightsounds" in the mid 1980s on KCBI radio in Dallas, Texas as I went to sleep. It was such a blessing. I still enjoy those radio spots each night on the "Nightsounds" app on my cell phone. I, like most others, like the "Beau Soir" music at the beginning and end of each program. I know that it was written by Claude Debussy, but I cannot find who the performers are on this program. Thank you, Bill, for the many blessings you have given to us all through your teachings, voice, and trombone.

Tom Lester from Green Acres really enjoyed your show. He was one devout Christian! Now you are with Jesus and all of your family in Heaven!

The people in Rillton PA adored you & your theme song BEAU SOIR. It was beautiful & haunting. You always had such a peaceful music selection. Ame Caline by Michel Polnareff also inspired us!

Was sad to hear that Bill has passed away. I did not know Bill personally, but I came to know him through his "Nightsounds" program through Moody Bible radio. That was almost 40 yrs ago. I still listen to Nightsounds on YouTube (October 2020). He will be missed.

Haven't listened to Bill for many years and I decided I wanted to hear him again. So when I checked to see if he was still on the air, I saw of his passing which has made me very sad. And what a surprise to see he was born in Carlisle PA where I too was born in 1935 and also that he resided in Xenia - just a stones throw from my residence now. I will to check my radio tonight to see if I can find Bill's program and start listening to him again. I did go to one of his concerts and I have a record. He was such a blessing.

I was born and raised in Xenia and as a 10 year old elementary student I found Nightsounds on a battery powered AM-FM transistor radio that I had won from a WGIC Radio call-in show. I listened to this man's voice and direction every night and from everywhere that I could find the broadcast. He went to boot camp with me in Texas and every CONUS assignment while I was active duty military. Years later, my wife and I would go to bed listening to his radio show and as my children acquired there own radio alarm clocks we would occasionally fall asleep listening to his inspired musical selections. Every one of my children would always ask to listen to the "leave the light on" man and could quote the P.O Box number and zip code of Wheaton, Illinois.
I was deeply saddened to hear when Bill lost his battle with illness and the radio show ended for me. I must admit that until this evening as I was searching the internet for recordings of his show and music, I learned that he was a resident of Xenia for the last years of his life and was less than a mile from the very home where I first heard his voice. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but can tell you that YHVH has so richly blessed me, my family, friends and the world with this man's voice, radio show and his testimony of YHVH that he will not be forgotten.

February 24 was sad as I heard of the passing of my favorite trombonist, Bill Pearce. My trombone teacher, the late Mark McDunn of Depaul University, said that Bill Pearce inspired more kids to play trombone than anyone else in history, including Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. This was because of the vast reach of Moody Radio.
I remember seeing him perform in my church as a boy. What a sound!!!! In an age where musicians have to have guaranteed money, a sold-out arena of 10,000 people, Bill Pearce humbly visitied churches on a Sunday evening, getting a small sum for his performance. He served Christ and I look forward to one day meeting him again in heaven. He is definitely the First Trombone, First Chair in the heavenly orchestra!

Somewhere in a town known as Wheaton in the state that is called Illinois
A man named William Pearce stands against the fierce tempations that may shade a person's joy
In a voice that can soothe the roughest edges, but stronger than that it comes against
Each word that is spoken causes bonds to be broken which have left many spirits caged and fenced

Yes,the sounds of the night can be enchanting
But through the silence comes the sweetest I have found
It truly is a miracle, hear it echo through the soul
Listen closely to the beautiful Nightsounds

As the sun settles back for the evening and the moon embarks upon its lofty rise
Warm and cozy we all get as radio dials are set and sound waves which do travel through the skies
Send your message into each and every dwelling and,as one,we submit with pure intent
Making sure that every word,to our ears,is clearly heard since each in its eloquence is heaven-sent

Yes,the sounds of the night can be enchanting
But through the silence comes the sweetest I have found
It truly is a miracle, hear it echo through the soul
Listen closely to the beautiful Nightsounds

We seek solace in the music that is offered, upon each note each soul is lifted high
Each teardrop is dried and fears are cast aside in the Glory of our Savior by and by
We find comfort in the lessons that are given as you read from each chapter and its verse
All our sorrows fade, our burdens one by one are laid at the Feet of the One whose love we thirst

Yes,the sounds of the night can be enchanting
But through the silence comes the sweetest I have found
It truly is a miracle, hear it echo through the soul
Listen closely to the beautiful Nightsounds

Yes,somewhere in a town known as Wheaton in the state that is called Illinois
A man named William Pearce stands against the fierce tempations that may shade a person's joy
Whether it be with a heartfelt trombone solo or in Scripture by each passage filled with love
At each half-hour's close a smile embraces those who've been blessed through your gift from Above

Have listened to Bill Pearce's Nightsounds program during the past 10+ years, and found it to be calming and edifying, part of my Christian walk. My thoughts and prayers are with the Pearce family at this time.

This Scripture is certainly applicable to Bill, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Bill Pearce has been a blessing to me. No matter how stressful the day, God worked through Bill to teach a young husband and father, and more recently a new grandfather, some very important life lessons. I distinctly remember many nights over the last 30 years when I would diligently scroll through radio stations in a hotel room to find that oh so familiar music and my friend, Bill Pearce. So it was appropriate that I tuned into Nightsounds last week on my iphone during a crosscountry journey to learn of Bill's departure from this veil of tears into the eternal presence of our Lord and Saviour. My heart is heavy even today. I look forward to hearing Bill's trombone upon my arrival!

In 1979 I was a new Christian and a trombone performance music major in college. It was then I was first introduced to the smooth and soaring melodies of Bill Pearce. I obtained a recording (one of several I acquired over the years including the 50 years edition) and I prayed, "Lord, teach me to play like this man." Five years later, I graduated, went on to seminary, and became a pastor. My church enjoys their preacher's trombone playing. I confess, however, that I cannot play like Bill (the Lord is still teaching me), but on occasion I play his "Worthy is the Lamb" through our church's sound system and play a duet with the trombonist of all trombone players. It is a blessing to me and to those who listen.

Thank you Lord for Bill Pearce - his resonatning voice of comfort to hurting souls, his flawless trombone playing, and his inspiring example that encouraged so many.

I have played some of Bill's trombone arrangements. My playing never sound as good as his did. I also use to fall asleep listening to him on Nightsounds (on WCRF) when I live lived in Northern Ohio. God trully blessed him with a tremendous talent and wonderful voice, and he used them for God's glory.

There were several nights traveling home from night classes I listened to Bill and his program. I was very sorry to hear of his death, he will be greatly missed.

I write this from the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, TN.
In the Christian radio world we have lost a giant of a man. Bill Pearce was such a mentor to me, even if from afar. I met him once, but feel like I know him, as many others feel the same. One of my dreams in Christian radio for 30 years now has been to one day "be like Bill Pearce" on late night radio. I am on nationwide Christian radio 3 hours each weeknight, talking "live" with callers across America. As I host "Life Perspectives" radio, I end many nights with a sign-off paying tribute to Bill Pearce. I often close the broadcast by saying, "I'm Jim Cress, wishing you a very pleasant good night". How many times I heard Bill say those comforting words as his "Beau Soir" theme music was coming to an end.
Bill's earthly suffering has ended, but his ministry here on earth through recorded "Nightsounds" programs will continue for a long time. And so brother Bill Pearce, this is Jim Cress wishing you a very pleasant good night . . . and I'll see you in the morning.

I first came to know Bill when I joined the staff at WMBI in June 1956. It was my good fortune, as studio engineer, to be assigned to many of Bill's programs, both solo and with Dick Anthony. I almost felt guilty taking pay for the work. Our friendship has continued through the years, I visited him in Xenia last June when we spent several hours remembering times past and the people we worked with, recognizing that so many are with the Lord. A picture of Bill's trombone hung over his bed and he glanced up at it as he mentioned his feelings when he could no longer play it. The choirs of Heaven have another resonant voice and if Gabriel needs a trombone to join alongside his trumpet, that's covered too. :o)

My most outstanding memory of Bill is that he was genuine! He was the same person off the air as he was on. His mother stopped in at the studio once and meeting her, told me a lot about him. He used the great talent with which God had entrusted him, to bring glory to the One who gave it. He was humble before the Lord when I first met him and the same at our last meeting. What you hear on Nightsounds came from his heart.

Many was the night I went to sleep listening to Bill Pearce on Melbourne, Florida's WCIF (Where Christ is First) radio station. I loved his theme song and the way he would laugh at himself from time to time. He was very much in touch with his radio audience and had a way of putting us in touch with the Father above. I hope to meet him one fine day when I reach my home in Heaven.

Heaven is so much richer today because Bill's soothing voice is there...I didn't realize he suffered from Parkinsons..I , too, have pd..(since 1996). Over the years as a young mother, raising her children, I
was always comforted by Bill's voice and his trumpet music. He truly
was a GIANT on the Lord's team. I send to you, his family, my deepest
sympathy in Bill's passing.I send to you a song I wrote.. "Through the Deep Waters"...Is your heart filled with love for the Saviour? Do you earnestly seek His favor? Are the cares of this life pulling you under?
Oh, call out to Jesus and through the deep waters, He will carry you through. Oft times earthly friends may fail me. Life seems empty, Oh, stay Thou near me. I claim your promises. You ne'r will forsake me, Your Spirit will guide me, and through the deep waters, Thou will carry me through. When life's journey is over and my eyes see, Heaven's glories awaiting me. With His arms outstretched, He welcomes me home. "Oh, Come unto me, Child, and through the deep waters, I HAVE CARRIED YOU HOME". Safely at home with Jesus. copyright 7/17/07 patricia a. sherrick
