Billy Guy Adkins

Billy Guy Adkins Bill Adkins died at home Friday, April 24, 2009, after a courageous battle with a Glioblastoma brain tumor. Cremation arrangements are being made by Bartley Funeral Home. He was under the care of Area Community Hospice, Inc., of Plainview. He was born March 14, 1930, in Haskell, Texas, to Aubrey Lee and Ruby V.O. Guy Adkins. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1948 and joined the Navy where he served in Korea on the aircraft carrier Bedouin Strait as an electrician. After discharge he opened Plains Electric in Plainview in 1955. He married Linda Gail Lees in Plainview on Nov. 29, 1957. He was a member of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Plainview Country Club, VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge and EASA Electric Motor Association. He is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Debbie Adkins of Plainview; two sisters, Joan Lagerstrom of Atworth, Ga., and Winona McClure of Huntsville, Ala; and three brothers, Denson Adkins of Gadsden Ala., Weldon Adkins of Detroit, Texas, and Jim Adkins of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Brown Chapel on the Wayland Baptist University campus. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the parlor of McClung Center at Wayland Baptist University. The family suggests donations be made to Wayland in lieu of flowers.
