Billy Edd Wheeler was a songwriter and author whose work earned him induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, best known for "Jackson," the Grammy Award-winning single by Johnny Cash (1932–2003) and June Carter (1929–2003).

So many great memories with my dear friend and co-writer. Condolences to his family, we all know what a wonderful person he was, and still lives through his music. I thank Billy Edd for teaching me so much about songwriting, and for all the adventures we had! At one of his songwriting weekends on the outer banks, we all waded through the waves in the middle of the night to higher ground during Hurricane Gordon. "Calm Before the Storm" was written then.
