Ten years after his death, I have come across this memorial and discovered that Bing has passed. I am sad that I will not have a chance to see him again.
In 1967 I attended the summer session at Phillips Academy in Andover, where Bing was teaching a math class. On the first day of class he bounced into the classroom in his cheerful, energetic way, and said OK. Weve got six weeks, which is more than enough time to do analytical geometry. You look like a smart bunch. Well finish up analytical geometry in a few weeks and then do calculus. And we did. The pace of the class was exhilarating. The instruction was terrific. This was, without a doubt, the best academic experience of my life.
In January of 1972 I was in Massachusetts, preparing to hitchhike across the country to Los Angeles, with a backpack, a medium weight coat, jeans, tennis shoes, and forty dollars. My last stop before starting my trip was to visit Bing in his home. He was appalled at my plans, and had a better sense of what I was getting into than I did. He generously insisted that I accept a pair of rubber boots, which were a great help and surely saved my feet from frostbite.
Bing was a kind, funny, wonderful person, and I will miss him.

KDS, LB Sung, Bing, Mother Hen #3.
Bing was all of these and more to myself, my husband and my son, Trent. I got to know Bing through Robin during the years we worked together at the Andover Bookstore. His phone calls to her were numerous and always a source of ridiculous fun for us all. Bing took on the challenge of tutoring Trent for two years and made an indelible impression on him with his intelligence, warmth and enthusiasm for every aspect of his young charge. His phone calls to us were also numerous and hilarious, as well as supportive and loving. We are blessed to have had the pleasure of basking in Bing's glow. My heartfelt sympathy and love to Robin and her boys.

Bing was a tutor for my son Peter and daughter Jill. He was always interesting enough and funny enough to keep them laughing and smart enough to teach them well. He had a great laugh and would always call me after a session and tell me how much he enjoyed working with my kids even when I know they were probably obnoxious. He tutored Peter in math and because of his hard work, Peter got into the ONLY college he wanted to go to and is happy and successful there. This family loved Bing and will always remember him with a smile.

I just met Dr. Sung in the past 2 months for SAT tutoring... I will tell you I didn't learn too much about the SAT's but I learned alot about him. On one our last sessions together we spoke for about an hour on nothing but eachother. Nothing to do with the SAT's, just how we both looked at life... One of the last lines i remember him saying to me before i left was " I hope we meet again someday, I could see us getting along real well.."

Rest in peace Dr. Sung, Your a great guy

I met Bing many years ago and we became instant friends and travelling partners. We lost touch for a while but when we met up it was like no time had passed. We had a wonderful time at my home in N.H.He'll be remembered for his generosity and knowledge and my family will miss him, and his love for our Italian food. Love, Tony Alba and Family

Bing was a great friend and a great guy. Although I had not seen him recently I always felt close to him. He was that rare combination of brilliant and funny. He will be missed and remembered
