Birdie Humble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2013.
MARSHALL —Birdie Lee Conley Humble fell asleep in death July 10, 2013, at the age of 93, in Marshall, Texas.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Eldorado, Arkansas, to Robert Louis and Ethel Elizabeth Pumphrey Conley. She was the second of ten children, four of whom were born to this union and six to a later union.
She later moved to Marshall, Texas, and married Jessie David "Skeet" Humble in 1935. To this union seven children were born. Her husband; two oldest sons, Jessie David Humble Jr. and Robert Louis Humble; three grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers, all preceded her in death.
Mrs. Humble was united with St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member and oldest at the time of her death. She was a member of St. Mark's Missionary Ministries. She was previously employed by Palace Cleaners and Laundry and Wards Restaurant. In addition to also being a homemaker, she was an outstanding quilter. Many of Mrs. Humble's quilts were on display at local, county and state shows. One of her quilts appeared in the Texas Monthly newspaper.
Mrs. Humble loved her children. Even though she only gave birth to seven children, she often exclaimed her daughters-in-law were all more like her own and were treated as such. She loved her family and all cherished their relationship. Her grandchildren were truly the "apple of her eye". She will be thoroughly missed by loved ones and friends alike. She had a loving, giving and caring spirit and would give all she had to help others, often at great sacrifice to herself.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Debra L. Humble Jackson, Marshall; four sons and daughters, Benjamin J. "B.J." and Blinda Humble, Marshall, Kenneth and Bobbie Humble, Hubert Heights, Ohio, Horace and Sothy Humble, Longview and Michael and Patricia Humble, Flint, Texas; two sisters, Ruby Lee Frazier, Eldorado, Arkansas, and Barbara Williams, Detroit, Michigan; two brothers, Charles (Evelyn) Smith, Oakland, California, and George Smith, Little Rock, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; special daughter, Janet Newsom; special son, Robert Davis, Marshall, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Jordan Health Services, Beacon Hospice of Longview and Marshall Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

May God continue to bless you each and every day in the loss of your beloved mother. She was such a good friend to my mom, the late Sis. Mattie Ann Porter. They often chatted at lengths on the phone.

God Is With You

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) May it be a source of inner strength to know that there's a loving God watching over you, and that, throughout this time of need, He'll stay close by your side.

Mrs Humble's children and I are friends. But she and her husband, and my mother and father, L.G. and Deatrice "Sugar" Brown were friends also. My prayers go with the family and may we all remember what a beautiful personality Mrs Humble presented to us all to use as an example to follow.
