Blanche Bowen

BLANCHE CHRISTINE ZAVEROUSKY BOWEN A woman before her time. Born in 1914 in Antigo, Wisconsin. Mrs. Bowen spent her childhood actively involved in the work of the family farm. After moving to Chicago in her early 20's, she married Lester Ernest Bowen, a railroad switchman. Mrs. Bowen became the sole support of her family when her husband began an illness that was to last 25 years. Mrs. Bowen, who completed an eighth grade education in a one room schoolhouse in Antigo, was an advocate of education. With her encouragement her daughter, Sharon Gedan, of Los Angeles, completed a Masters Degree. Mrs. Bowen also motivated and supported other family members in furthering their educations. In her 40's, Mrs. Bowen completed high school in California. Mrs. Bowen was known as a dedicated worker who received recognition for 40 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service. She is mourned by a group of coworkers and friends who remember her generosity. Mrs. Bowen is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gedan of Los Angeles; sisters, Mildred Riemer of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Mary Duffin of Chicago; and brother, Charles Zaverousky of Antigo Wisconsin.
