We became teachers together and we laughed all the way. I remember seeing you in LAX 12 years ago and I was laughing within 20 seconds. I found out you left us just recently. You were loved by the students and co workers. Save me a place at the bar when it is my time. I thought we would retire at the same time. Much love Bob.

Mr. McConnell was my grade seven math teacher. He was an amazing teacher and made math seem easy because he helped me in a way I understood. He motivated me and knew how to make me laugh. He made math a lot of fun with his jokes and great sense of humor. He will be missed greatly by everyone.

Bobby: Gary and I will miss your smile, your spirit and all of those jokes....the good ones, the bad ones and the groaners. Some of those jokes have stayed with us for over 20 years now, but will never outlive our memories of you. The world is a better place for your having been here.
Graeme, know that your father loved you with every ounce of his soul. You may have found his bragging about you a little embarrassing, but it was a source of inspiration for many.
May you both find peace during this next part of your journey,
Suzanne Eaton and Gary Darjes

Mr. McConnell was my grade 7 math and gym teacher. Over the years i have had many math teachers and Mr. McConnell was the best math teacher i had because of his Monday jokes and because he made me like math. Before i went to Jr. high math was not my most favorite subject but now i love math all because of Mr. McConnell. We will all miss you and i wish i had come back to see you after i moved at the end of grade 7. But i felt like he was always there considering i went to a school he had worked at a long time ago, FE Osborne Jr high school. R.I.P Mr. McConnell.

News of Bob's passing has just reached me and I am very sad and feel for you both. Bob and I lived together for about 2 years in Calgary and played Rugby together for many years. I will truly miss Bob and his wonderful sense of Humour. I know that sentiment is the same for the many friends and rugby players that knew Bob in and around Calgary. I will miss you mate.

Mr. McConnell taught me math and gym in grade 7. He really helped me understand math and learn to properly work the equations, and without him I don't think I'd be anywhere near where I am now in math. He motivated me to actually work in gym and his jokes made an otherwise dreary monday morning better. He was a great teacher and a nice man, who loved his family and he was always so proud of his son. It's a shame that his time came so soon, but where ever he finds himself, I hope he is happy and I'm sure he'll be there brightening up the atmosphere with one of his light hearted jokes. He will be missed by all those who's lives were brightened by his outstanding qualities.

Mr. McConnell was an understanding and positive man who always had a zest for life. He treated me with respect during the year that he taught me. Certain things were going on in my life during that time and he didn't judge me, and helped me through it all, understanding when I couldn't do something. He lived a great life, always had a smile on his face, and will be very missed by everyone who's lives he was in.

I just learned of this shocking news. I worked with and for Bob many times as a substitute teacher at John Ware. He was always so kind and he always treated me with respect. We shared a mutual love of marathons -- although, he was much better than I. I will miss his sense of humor and his warm smile.

Mr. McConnell you will never be forgotten, Your monday morning jokes always kicked off a great day. Coming into junior high i was nervous, but then meeting a teacher like you made the experience so much better. You and me were quite close, you taught me math, gym, and triatholon. We had many good talks about hockey. The main thing that stands out is when i saw you at the Macs Midget tournament not to long ago. You and your son came to me even though i wasn't playing. I really appreicated seeing you at the rink in knowing i had your support. You always pushed me either in math class or gym to be a better person and to work harder. Without your constient support and effort i wouldn't be where i am today. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in Peace Mr. McConnell

Bob, you were a friendly neighbour, fellow runner and teacher. I will miss seeing you walking your dog or bumping into you at local running events. Our back alley chats about work, our kids, our dogs, travel and life in general will also be missed. You always had a funny joke or anecdote to share which made me feel lighter. You made me smile.
I am glad you were part of my life.

Mr. McConnell, you taught me math and science at Bishop Pinkham close to 6 years ago now. You were also my neighbour ever since we moved onto Lakeview Drive, it is funny because my family nearly bought your house, but we decided on one a few doors down. My family and I would see you out and about every now and then running, walking your dog or even at the grocery store. To your family, from mine we are sorry for your loss, and to you Mr.McConnell, I enjoyed my time in your class and I will carry the fun times and memories with me always. We will all miss you very much.

To Bob and his family:
I worked with Bob in the Math Department at Forest Lawn High this past year and a half. Bob was well known in our department as the jokester. He always had something witty to say at meetings, never missing an opportunity for a good one-liner. He was so passionate about his son, Graeme; always filling us in on upcoming activities with him. Bob was a very devoted father who valued family time, and I admired that very much about him. Graeme, our thoughts are with you. I hope you will always cherish those great moments spent with your dad. Bob, we know you loved our school and we will miss your presence here. You may now rest peacefully and quietly knowing that you have made a difference to all of us.

To Bob's family,
I worked with Bob at Forest Lawn, and my son played for their rugby team last year. My favorite memory of Bob is the day that our boys won the city championships and he was there standing with me under my umbrella cheering them on. He had such an upbeat and positive attitude about the game and the players, despite the cold rainy weather we were standing in, and was laughing at my "foul" language when things would get exciting. I am truly sorry for your loss, and the circumstances, but I know he is at peace and resting happily. My thoughts are with all of you.

To Bob's Family
I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was so passionate about his love for Grahame and treasured the experiences of travelling and seeing the world with him.
I so wanted to be able to travel to Calgary for the memorial service but my own health issues prevent that. Just know that I will light a candle at mass on Sunday and say a prayer so that God will keep Bob safe till we all meet again.
I wish you all the strength needed to get through the next few weeks but know Bob was loved by all who knew him. His spirit will be with us in the years to come.
Keep the Faith
