Bob Portis

NEW ALBANY – Robert T. ""Bob"" Portis, 85, died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born March 24, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., to the late Charles Martin Portis and Alice Warren Portis. He was a retired employee of Masterbilt where he worked as a customer service representative. Bob was a member of the Gideons International and Northside Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015, at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Terry Rodgers and the Rev. Bobby Casteel officiating. Burial will be in Keownville Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Portis and Tracy Holmes (Dennis), both of New Albany; five stepdaughters, Pam Futato of New Albany, Sharon Whiteside of Tupelo, Teresa Cannon of New Albany, Karen ""Tweety"" Davis of Pontotoc and Rebecca Austin of Blue Springs; a son, John Portis of New Albany; a sister, Charlene Wellborn of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shelby Elder Portis; a daughter, Julie Ann Portis; and a son, Robert Joseph Portis.
Members of the Gideons International will served as pallbearers.
Visitation will be today, May 27, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
