I met Bobby Eli in 1976. I was driving a taxi at night when my band was not working. He hailed down my taxi at 18th & Walnut in Philly Center City to take him home. We chatted about our music during the drive home. As he was about to leave my taxi he gave me his phone number so I could visit him & MFSB for his studio sessions at Sigma Sound. I'll never forget his beautiful full length leather patch work coat. He was a great musician & loved the music. He taught me alot. He was good hearted a good listener & just a down to earth genuine person. I've never forgotten him. Rest in peace my friend & music teacher. I'll see you in Heaven's music section some day. Bobby was amazingly talented, and his bright and beautiful spirit touched all who knew him. He was a wonderful friend to my late husband, Tony Brown, and I. He will be missed beyond expression. My heart and prayers go out to his wife, Vonnie, and all of their family and loved ones.

Deepest condolences to Vonnie and Bobby´s family and friends. Bobby was the soul man behind the guitar, writing, and production of so many great artists, including my uncle´s group The Sons of Robin Stone. I had the honor of speaking with Bobby last year while doing research for the book I´m writing about The Sons. Rest in rhythm, Bobby, and thanks for the magic.

I´ve known Bobby for over 60 years, starting when he used to come around Beaumont street to see his big sis Rae. Over the years we did sessions together, hung out at the Grooveyard and made each other laugh. His talent was huge as we know, but he was just as formidable as a human. My condolences to Vonnie and Bobby´s loved one. May he rest in eternal peace and happiness.
