It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that our husband, father, and friend, Bobby Joe Toups, passed away peacefully at St. Pats Hospital in Lake Charles LA surrounded by his family. Bobby was born in Sulphur, LA on November 8 1943, to Dennis and Yolande Toups.
After graduating from Sulphur High School, Bobby joined the Navy where he served proudly for 4 years, then attended Sowella Tech in Lake Charles for computer programming. Shortly after completing his studies, he was offered a position by Bob King, who owned several restaurants in Louisiana, Bobby ended up running several different restaurants for Mr. King, which ultimately lead to owning his very own restaurant which is now known and loved as BJ’s Family Diner in Leesville, LA. In 1995, Mr. Bobby retired from the restaurant industry. He later worked on Ft. Polk as a Role Play Supervisor for several years. Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and would often get everyone together for card games, dominos, and penuckle. When he wasn’t knee deep in game activities with friends and family, he loved to fish. He spent much time on his dock on Vernon Lake fishing, visiting with family and friends, or just relaxing and watching wildlife, and of course watching the fish jump. He was quite a character and is loved and deeply missed by many.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Madeline (Mattie) Toups, of Anacoco LA; two sons, Bobby Dean Toups (wife Michele) of Anacoco LA, and Brian Lee Toups (fiancée Jody) of Leesville, LA.; nine grandchildren, Hailey Toups of New Orleans LA, Kasci Toups of Leesville LA, Faith Toups of Dallas TX, Devin Toups of Leesville LA, Saydi Toups of Lake Charles LA, Harlie Toups of Ewa Beach Hawaii, Ryan Bettevy (Wife Ayla) of Jennings LA, Bryce Lowe of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Parker Lowe of Leesville LA. and two great-grandchildren Baylor and Katherine Bettevy both of Jennings LA.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother Yolande Toups and father, Dennis of Sulphur LA.; five brothers Leroy Toups, JC Toups, Donald Toups, and Ronald Toups, Dennis Lee Toups, one sister Anna Granger, and one grandson Brian James (BJ) Toups.
Honoring Bobby’s wishes, Labby Funeral Home will perform a cremation, and there will be no viewing. However, there will be a memorial service/visitation held at St. Michaels Catholic Church at 9 AM Thursday, February 9th. Followed by a Rosary at 10:30 AM, and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
Words of comfort may be expressed to the Toups Family at www.labbymemorial.com
