Bonnie Joyce Bennett, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Oak View.
She was born August 18, 1927 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Theodore Lloyd and Leona Mae Smith Karcher. Bonnie married Thomas LeRoy Bennett on March 9, 1951 in Ventura. Bonnie has lived most of her life in Ventura County since coming here with her family at age 13 from Oklahoma. Once married, she and Tom lived in multiple locations in Ventura and eventually moved to Meiners Oaks where they raised their daughters, Connie and Christine.
As a homemaker, Bonnie followed Tom with their family to Newbury Park and then to Goleta. Years after Tom's passing in 1984, she united with her daughter's father-in-law, Ronald Aikens, and moved to Oak View where they resided happily for the last eleven plus years.
Bonnie enjoyed gardening, has an array of lovely collectible dolls and was talented in fashion design and water colors. Two of her most prized paintings are of her granddaughter, Rachel, and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica, in their wedding gowns. She also enjoyed having birds and dogs as family pets. She enjoyed having her family around her, especially having them within walking distance and visiting often. Most of all, she enjoyed the loving care and attention of Ron in her later years.
She is survived by her companion, Ron Aikens, daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Brian Aikens, of Oak View; daughter, Christine Bennett of Oceanside; sister, Doris Seeley of Ventura; grandchildren, Rachel (Alex) Burke of Santa Maria, Ryan (Jessica) Aikens of Woodland Hills, and her one great-grandchild, Aidan Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Leona, and husband, Thomas Bennett.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing 3p.m. until 5 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010 and the memorial service 11 a.m. on Monday September 13, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.

I
left flowers at Dad's and Mom's grave site ...leaving two roses ...one
for Dad and one for Mom to signify the love they shared for over 33
years moving from Meiners Oaks, CA near Ojai, Newbury Park, CA and years
in beautiful Goleta, CA near Santa Barbara. Mom lived in Goleta for 29 years. Dad never wanted
...to take off his wedding ring because
his family meant everything to him and it signified the love Mom and
Dad shared. My Dad's character and knowing the true virtue of eternal
love...I know my Mom is at peace and at his side. My Mom always had a
great sense of humor and Dad and Mom loved to dance together when they
were young. I love them both forever ....Love you Mom and Dad.

Connie, Brian and Uncle Ron: We are deeply sadden with the news of Bonnie's passing. Truely she was a joy in your lives and her presence will be missed by ya'll. However, the blessings of memories does ease the sorrow. She is now your angel mother and companion. Our prayers are with you. Take Care.

With my deepest sympathy to all who loved Bonnie. She was one of the most giving and good natured persons I've ever met. Always saw the good in life and everyone. Thank you, Bonnie, for your kindness and generosity I so enjoyed for several years. Heaven will be showered with your beauty and grace!

Connie,
What a lovely woman your mom is. I wish I would have met her. The gospel is such a blessing at these difficult times, even when one has lived a long and generous life. I pray the Lord will bring peace and comfort to your hearts and joy as you remember your dear mom and know you will see her again.

What a blessing it was to have Bonnie, and my Dad, Ron, living so very close. To be able to walk the dogs over and visit, to share meals with them each week and for Connie to talk with her mom most nights. What a wonderful daughter she left me for my wife and for Bonnie to leave her legacy in the sweetness of her daughter is for us eternal. We miss her each day, but know health and enduring happiness are her's now. We love you Bonnie.

We'll see you down at the corral you silly little filly.
