Bonnie Jean Hanna: October 27, 1937 – March 14, 2022
Bonnie Jean Hanna passed peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022, at the age of 84 in Novato, California after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born to J. Edward "Ed" Barry and Virginia "Deba" Barry in corning, New York in 1937. Bonnie grew up in upstate New York and was awarded May Queen by her classmates in High School.
She attended Allegany College for two years and later graduated from Miami University in Ohio with a BA in Education. Bonnie taught first graders in Southern California for five years, before marrying and having four children – Laurie, Molly, Bill, and John; and two grandchildren – Jake and Sophia. Her true love was her family and her friends. Bonnie was a kind, down to earth, creative, and selfless person, who loved birds and nature.
Bonnie's faith brought her a great deal of comfort and she spent several years doing volunteer work arranging flowers for St. Luke's Church in Westport Connecticut. In addition, she volunteered at the Nature Center in Westport and gave money to several charities over the years. She is survived by her four adult children, her two grandchildren, and her two brothers – Tom and Jack. Bonnie was devoted to and maintained several life long friends and she will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for the summer of 2023 in the Town of Novato, CA. Please contact William Hanna at [email protected] for more information. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Bonnie's favorite charity: Earthplace – A Nature Preserve in Westport CT. [email protected] or Alzheimer's Association alz.org

Bonnie Hanna was one of those people you hugged when you met her. Her open smile and charm were just scratching the surface of her personality-but a very welcome one. Her kindness towards everyone and generosity of spirit coupled with wisdom, not to leave out a wry sense of humor, well it was a unique composite. She was one of the sweetest people I´ve met in my life, and she´ll always be with me. She joins the souls of people who have impacted me and stay in my mind when I think how to act on any decision. I hope I can be more like her. Rest In Peace Bonnie. I´ll always cherish and love you. Your pal, Richard

My favorite memories of Bonnie were sitting in her backyard watching the ducks swim on the river behind her house. A lovely woman whose humor and compassion are greatly missed.

"Auntie Bonnie" will truly be missed. She was kind, generous, thoughtful and went out of her way to make those around her feel loved and supported. Her love and admiration for her children and grandchildren was visible to all those who entered her home, or spent any amount of time with her. And each one of her children are a reflection of both her inner and outer beauty. Heaven welcomed another angel, and I am confident Auntie Bonnie´s love will continue to shine down on all of us.

Only knowing Bonnie in her last year on this earth, she still exuded her warm personality through her eyes and hands. Her kindness lives on in her very loving children and grandchildren. She will be missed.
