Bonnie Neorr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 15 to Apr. 17, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that the Neorr family announces the death of its matriarch. Bonnie Jean Crossman Neorr, 78, died peacefully on March 27, 2023, following a brief and sudden illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a friend, teacher, and mentor who left a precious legacy and gleaming example of a life spent caring for others.

Bonnie was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 21, 1944, to John William Crossman and Mildred Richter Crossman. At Woodward High School in Toledo, she was a band member, playing the clarinet, oboe, and the French horn. Upon her graduation in 1962, Bonnie entered the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, earning a Registered Nurse Degree in 1965 and immediately began her nursing career at Toledo Hospital in Labor and Delivery where she was quickly promoted to Head Nurse. In 1967, she joined the Air Force Reserves where she served for two years after which she continued a life devoted to the service of others as a nurse in many roles over a 50+ year career. During the 1980s and 1990s, she worked for the American Red Cross as a disaster specialist for the state of Mississippi, caring for thousands of strangers during their worst of times. After her retirement from the Red Cross, she continued to work as an elder care specialist for over 15 years focused on driving improvements in nursing home facilities and training certified nurse assistants. Bonnie was known for going above and beyond for others and even after her retirement from healthcare at 72, she continued to care for neighbors and community members in need.

Bonnie also will be remembered for her passion for flowers. Throughout her life, she enjoyed planting and arranging flowers for all occasions. For many years, Bonnie donated her time to create beautiful arrangements for weddings, anniversaries, holidays, and school dances. She was especially known for regularly bringing fresh flowers to nursing home residents. Bonnie once wrote, "Remember me when you see beautiful flowers because they are plentiful. Weeds from the grandchildren are the best." Her family most certainly will always remember her beautiful spirit.

Bonnie is survived by her companion and ex-husband Kenneth Neorr and their four children, Steven Neorr, Karen Little, Leighann King, and Kevin Neorr. She will be lovingly remembered as Granny Bonnie by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren (Adeline, Brock, Channing, Clayton, Devin, Ella, Jacob, Jeanie, Jestine, Kayden, Kayla, Madeleine, Orlean, and Zach, plus two more on the way) as well as by the many other people she took into her generous heart. Bonnie was proceeded in death by her parents.

A private memorial service will be held on April 22, 2023 at Bolton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bonnie's honor to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choice. "A mother's goodness, her caring, and her wisdom live on - like a legacy of love that will always be with you."
