On Thursday, August 18, 2011, in his ninety-fourth year. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude. Devoted father and father-in-law of Brahm & Carole-Ann, Paul & Sharon, and the late Gail Helen Levine. Cherished Grandpa of Stuart & Amanda Levine, Jennifer & Lee Emdur; Gayle & Roni Munk, Jillian, Ian & Ryan Levine. Loving great-grandfather of Daryn, Chloe & Maya Levine; Gavin & Rayna Emdur; & Gabrielle Munk. He will be sadly missed by his cherished companion, Zelda Yaffe. Dear brother-in- law of Sonny & Goldie Drobetsky, and predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Sara & Mac Harris, Rona & Louis Gross, Goldie & Ernie Sherwin, Leonard Levine, and by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ethel & Kalman Angel, Hilda & Morris Moscovitch. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and good friends. A special thank you to Lila for assisting him in living his last few years at home with dignity, and to Dr. Estelle Lorber and the staff at the Jewish General Hospital for their compassion and caring.
Boris was recognized as a legend in Montreal's Jewish Community. His long service with Allied Jewish Community Services (now Federation CJA) culminated in the roles of President in 1971 and Chair of Combined Jewish Appeal in 1985. He served countless other community organizations, including Camp B'nai Brith, the Y.M. Y.W.H.A., the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital Foundation, Canadian Jewish Congress, Elm Ridge Country Club and his beloved synagogue, Congregation Shaar Hashomayim. He is the recipient of the Samuel Bronfman Medal, the President of the State of Israel Medal and was designated "Man of the Year" by the Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal in 2001.
Professionally, he spent many years on the Bureau of the Ordre des comptables agres du Qubec and became its President in 1976 and was awarded the FCA designation in 1978. He was a founding partner of Zittrer, Siblin, Stein, Levine which became one of Montreal's leading accounting firms (subsequently merged with Ernst & Young). He served National organizations such as the Canadian Council of Christians & Jews, Jeunesses musicales du Canada, and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
The culmination of all of Boris' involvement in his community, his profession and his country was his appointment in 2003 as a Member of the Order of Canada, which celebrates a lifetime of achievement and service.
He will be cherished and remembered with love, always.
Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon W. on Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m. Burial at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, Mount Royal Blvd. Shiva at 192 Eton Cr. Hampstead. In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Boris & Gertrude Levine Endowment Fund c/o The Jewish Community Foundation, (514) 345-2645, ext. 3305.

I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Brahm and the entire Levine family on the passing of Boris. I worked for Boris many years ago and it was not only an honour but a pleasure to work for such a wonderful gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
