Boris Vasileff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 27 to Jun. 28, 2023.
Boris A Vasileff, of Delray Beach and Bloomfield Hills, died on June 23, 2023, truncating only slightly his first trip to Europe since the pandemic. During the last two months of life, he traveled in Europe and fell in love with Barcelona and Sitges, spent two weeks in his favorite city, Paris (shopping with the occasional forced visit to a museum, but always maintaining his resolute tradition of avoiding all paintings of madonnas and bambinos, directing his wheelchair forcefully instead for the Monets (but none with snow in them)), shopping in London (where he did successfully avoid all museums, instead making sure that the Marmalade shelves at Fortnum and Mason continuously needed quick replenishment), and re-visited his favorite Cotswold gardens and houses (including Blenheim Palace where, like Hyacinth Bucket, he knew it was a mere accident of birth he didn't live there), almost always in the company of family and friends, from Scotland, England, Bulgaria, and the U.S., who gave him great joy in his time remaining. He only failed in accomplishing his planned trip home on the Queen Mary, but had to return, more expeditiously if less comfortably, to die at home.

He is survived by his loving sister-in-law Cassie, his nephews of whom he was so proud, William Kelton, Jody, Christopher, and Alex, and by Terry Crawford, with whom he was together for 48 years. He was predeceased by his dear continuously missed brother, William, his parents Dona and Anton, and his closest friends, George, Brant, Dan, and Lois as well as by his beloved Vizslas and Poodles.

He was not a lover of solitude, believing a dinner to be only a snack if it wasn't eaten with at least two others. He never let illness defeat him and he was joyous that he was finally beginning to travel again. He loved gardening and never saw a plant that couldn't be squeezed in somewhere, even though cynics could discern no empty space, resulting in the increasingly decreasing amount of lawn grass.

Friends, family, puppies, shopping, decorating, entertaining, travel, and the general joy of living were what mattered to him. His was a kind and gentle soul, finding happiness even when happiness was sometimes hard to find. He had the best friends and family anyone could be so lucky to have. He lived a well loved and loving life.

Boris, I love you. You will be in my heart for lifetimes to come. A best friend to the core. So incredibly warm and welcoming... to everyone. Extremely loving, caring, funny, wise and quick-witted. We will all relish those classic, often amusingly-shocking comments never to be forgotten! You and Terry were perfect together, for almost half-a-century! We thank you for bringing Terry into our lives.
