Bradley McLean Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2024.
Bradley McLean, 57, of Somerville, passed away on October 1st, 2024, surrounded by family at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Born on December 10th, 1966, in Providence, RI, Brad was the son of Prof. L. Deckle McLean Jr., a journalist, and Pamella Blake McLean, an academic advisor at Western Illinois University. He spent his early years in Cambridge, MA, before moving to Syracuse, NY, where he graduated from William Nottingham High School in 1984.

Brad was a brilliant and industrious computer executive who launched his first company, Computer Technologies, at just 16 years old. Over his illustrious career, he worked as a software engineer and chief technology officer at several companies, including Gaylord Information Systems, SilverPlatter Information Inc., Block Financial, Student Universe, Constant Contact, Duraspace, Entic, and Nexamp.

Outside of his professional life, Brad had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He was passionate about theater lighting and served for many years as the lighting designer for the Cayuga Community College Theater Program in Auburn, NY. He was also part of the local lighting crew for major concerts in Syracuse, NY, including performances by Elton John and Billy Joel. In addition, Brad enjoyed riding motorcycles, gardening, brewing his own craft beers, woodworking-crafting custom cabinetry, doors, and stairs for the family home in his woodshop- and watching his beloved Boston Celtics. Above all, he took great pleasure in cooking elaborate and delicious meals for his loved ones, including his famous Thanksgiving spread featuring three types of turkey: one fried, one smoked, and one roasted.

Brad was known for his strong moral compass and his readiness to help others, whether through advice, mentorship, or even something as simple as shoveling a neighbor's driveway. Anyone who knew Brad has a story of how he touched their life in a positive way.

A devoted husband and father, Brad was deeply committed to ensuring his children's success. From hand-painting murals on their walls to coaching their soccer teams and sourcing the perfect ingredient for their recipes, Brad always went the extra mile for his loved ones.

Bradley is survived by his wife, Miriam, with whom he recently celebrated 25 years of marriage; his two children, Nia and Miles; his parents, Pamella and Deckle McLean; his uncle and aunt, Gordon and Gail Blake; his brother, Dr. Matthew (Danielle) McLean; his sister, Sarah Acosta; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A public visitation will be held on October 19th, 2024, from 2-5 pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140. Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ, in 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the HealthWell Foundation.

My sincere condolences to Brad's family and friends. I knew him from a distance at Levy Jr. High and Nottingham H.S. The family may want to see a long beautiful & profound tribute to Brad written by his close high school friend Ben Ketcham in the Facebook group "So You Went to Nottingham High School in the '80's".

I also had the pleasure of working with Brad for a while around 2010. He was thoughtful and generous with his time. I have fond memories of discussions where he would touch his nose and point, a signal that you were on the same page. Glad to have known you, Brad.

I worked with Brad at DuraSpace from 2009-2012. He was a wonderful colleague and mentor. I was lucky enough to even get a sample of his homebrew beer and smoked meat. He'll be missed.

My condolences to all his family and friends. Brad was a wonderful human.
