Douglas Cox Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jun. 19, 2010.

COX, Douglas H., F.R.I.September 14, 1914 - June 8, 2010In the early morning of June 8, Douglas died peacefully in his sleep with Leone, his wife of 58 years at his side. It was a quiet end to his long and courageous battle with cancer and other medical conditions. He will be deeply missed by Leone, his daughter Vivien (Geoffrey) of Cheshire, England, cousins in England and many good friends. Douglas was born in Manchester and lived mainly in London, England. An accountant by profession, he had a distinguished career in London as the CEO of a large public real estate company. In 1954 Douglas and Leone emigrated to Canada where he furthered his career in real estate management and development in Toronto, Ontario. In 1974 they chose to move to Vancouver. He was a member of the Real Estate Institute of Canada and one of the early Presidents of the newly formed Vancouver chapter. Upon Douglas' retirement in 1981 they moved to Redondo Beach, California, returning to British Columbia in 1985 and settling in Tsawwassen. Douglas was a man of many interests. In Canada his passion was fishing and boating and he belonged to both the RCYC in Toronto and the RVYC in Vancouver. He volunteered for the Red Cross, B.C. & Yukon - on the Finance Committee, then as Honorary Treasurer and in 1982 received the Red Cross of Canada's Service Medal. Douglas was a gracious, kind and wonderful man and his loss will be felt by the many people whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at All Saints Church, 4755 Arthur Drive, Ladner, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vancouver General Hospital, the BC Cancer Agency, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
