Brenda Hobbs Jones Dawes died Thursday July 9, 2009, at Crestwood Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. She was born Oct. 7, 1943 to Lee Benford and Mary Sue Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David Dawes. She is survived by one son, Brian David Dawes of Decatur; her only brother, Billy Vann Jones and wife Carolyn; niece, Kim Crouch and husband Keith; nephew, Erik Jones and wife Christy; great-nieces, Lillian Claire Crouch, Taylor Sterling Jones, Olivia Caroline Crouch, and Mary Natalee Jones, all of Athens. She also is survived by her best friend of many years, Joyce Saylor. Brenda graduated from East Limestone High School in 1961. She attended nursing school in Ashville, N.C. and came home to work all of her career in Decatur. She worked as a nurse at Baugh-Wiley Smith Hospital, Parkway Medical Center and, at the time of her death, she worked for Dr. Moses Awoniyi of Decatur.

I was so very sorry to hear of Brenda's illness and death. She was a great friend of mine, but I hadn't seen her since 2001. She was a beautiful person.
