I was just thinking of all the great folks I've met who we've lost too soon; Brendan was one of them. He & I were pole vaulting teammates for a very short bit. I don't have too many memories of him but I do recall him being boisterous, brave, and unafraid of age class hierarchy - something that intimidated many (myself included!) back in the high school years. My love and thoughts go out to you, Brendan, as well as your dear family who I trust has been strong over the years. xox

Brendan, it has been 1,148 days since you left. Almost 3 and a half years. There is very little I remember about you, but the only memories I have with you were all fun. Doesn't matter if you were riding your bike through the two feet if water in the path, or skimboarding on the golf course. You were always such a great kid. I still cry myself to sleep sometimes thinking about the time you protected me from a scary movie, and held me right trying to comfort me. The pain has honestly only gotten worse. I miss you so much. God is so lucky to have you.

Brendan,
I miss you so much. The pain is horrible. You were like my older brother. Your mom will go into your room and cry sometimes. Nothing seems fun. I wish you didn't die.

Brendan, you were practically my brother. It has been almost a year, and I still cry myself to sleep sometimes. I pray for you every night. I miss you so much.

Brendan, you were practically my brother. The pain we're all going through is horrible. Nothing has gotten better, just worse. It's been 9 months, but it feels like last week. Im doing everything i can to comfort your family, and i always will. You are my family and you shall always be with me. Forever and always.

Dearest Brendan,
When I'm getting ready to go to bed, I always think about you. It's one of those things-death; it's so...permanent. When my grandpa died, I remember you came up to me, and said, "hey, how are you?" just that little conversation lifted my mood. What I loved about you is that you were fearless. You weren't scared to take risks, you never followed the crowd. You were a leader. You always will be a leader, and I admired your confidence. It wasn't to show off, or fake, it was always sincere. You were an amazing friend to not just me, but to the whole community-something like that can never die. Please know that I miss you so much-it hurts. Thank you for being there for me when my grandpa died, and may you always rest in peace with God's arms wrapped around you.
Sincerely your neighborhood friend,
Natalie Connolly

To the Touhy Family -

I met Brendan several times at the Dreams for Kids/Extreme Recess events. He stood out as a kind and talented person in such a young body. Not many people that I know can both drive a boat and catch a turkey! I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. The news left me with such a heavy heart for his family, and friends. Since that date, I have wanted to say something, but sat silent as words escaped me.

Please know that those lives, such as ours, that Brendan touched will remember him always. May the love of family and friends carry you through this time of grief.

I do not know how to find you, please reach out to me if you can. My cell is 773-616-6243. He looks the same on the picture...How sad

Dear Thuoy Family,
My heart breaks for the loss of your son. My God give you strenght, faith and hope that some day you will understand why your son had to leave so early. We ask why this happened. It happened for something greater beyond our understanding. Please just remember Jesus is carring you in his arms, and giving you strenght to go on.
You are in my prayers.

Dear Tuohy Family,
I am a wrestler at Viking Middle School in Gurnee. When Brendan was in 8th grade I was in 6th grade. I saw him wrestle. I will always remember him, not just because he was a great wrestler but also because of the way he acted off the mat. He was very nice and social, he took the time to watch all of his teammates wrestle. Later in that year I joined my schools track team. I saw Brendan at a track meet. He came up to me and started talking to me. I was very surprised that he would've remembered me,because I didn't talk to him at the wrestling meet. He is a great role model to all wrestlers and people, because he acted with so much respect and kindness. He will always be remembered.

Dear Tuohy Family,
I was lucky enough to have Brendan in math class last year. He was such a hard worker and always had a smile on his face. When I talk with other teachers in my department, and most of them only met Brendan once, we all remember his enthusiasm and how polite and respectful he was. He had such a tremendous impact on everyone. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

August 19, 2010

Jim and Family -
Words cannot begin to express how sorry I am for your loss. Brendan was one of the biggest gentlemen, and sportsmen, both on and off the mat. I will never forget my son wrestling against him - and when asked if he had a chance of going to state - Brendan replying, "Yes sir." I then had the joy of watching both my son, and Brendan compete in DeKalb - and even help coach Brendan in a few offseason tournaments between 8th and Freshman year. Last year - when Warren wrestled Lake Forest - Brendan made a point to come find me to say "hey."

Our thoughts are with you.

To the Touhy Family - I am so sorry to hear the loss of Brendan. He was an amazing and special young man. I was always very impressed with his character and manners. Whenever I saw him I would always say afterwards to myself "I wish more kids were polite and had manners like Brendan and his brothers." I enjoyed the conversations I had with Brendan.
