I have learned about Brent Galloway just this summer (8-2025) as I dig through my grandfather's old papers about the Galloway family history. Brent & my grandfather corresponded a good bit, the earliest letter I have is 1965.
He sounds like a wonderful person and I wish I had known him.
To Mrs. Drew Everett - I would be glad to share info I have (including a thumbnail sketch you may be referring to) but don't know how to reach you or anyone in his family. I think Brent would be pleased if we could somehow carry on his work and the work of my grandfather (& uncle).

I just discovered (this week) letters from Brent to my great uncle in SC about their common and close relatives of the Galloways. The letters, written in the early 1970s are quiet interesting and I only wished I had read them years ago because Brent and my uncle were in the middle of uncovering lots of info and pictures. Brent was going to write a Thumbnail Sketch of what he had learned, but don't know if this every occured. If anyone out their has any more information about the Galloway please let me know.

Oh my, i didnt know and it's so heart breaking yet left are all the great work he did here at Nooksack Tribe from the late 70s to 2012, all the work he done towards Nooksack Tribe's Place Names book, all the language sessions we had with tribal elders such good times. I will always remember his dedication to our elders back then and his big smile. Thank you to Brent's family for sharing him.

It was an honor and pleasure to work with Brent and Miriam to preserve his papers at the University of Washington Libraries. Brent generously spent hours with me describing his linguistic work and sharing his love of musical composition. His kindness and linguistic scholarship, with a commitment to revitalizing languages, is a lasting legacy in my life as I am sure, in the lives of many others. Wishing you comfort, Miriam.

As Brent's older brother, I am extremely proud of his work preserving native languages in Washington State and in Canada, his superb teaching and administration of the department at First Nations University at Regina. His love of languages began in middle school as well as his interest in oral history and genealogy, all of which made him the caring, dedicated person that all who know him recognized very well. He also had great interest if music and writing orchestral works as well. We all know what a great man he was. We wish him peace.

My heart goes out to family and friends. Brent will be remembered for all his work with our Sto:lo people. I will especially remember him for his Halq'emeylem work with me on my Dissertation and even with my earlier studies when he opened his Halq'emeylem files to me so generously. Brent will be missed dearly. R.I.P. Brent!
