Brent Hinds Obituary
He cofounded the heavy metal band Mastodon, and he played guitar and sang vocals on songs like their Grammy Award-winning single "Sultan's Curse."

I never got to meet Brent, however his influence on me through his music and amazing guitar work is incalculable. When I first discovered the album Crack the Skye after it's release, I was blown away at the raw talent and musicianship of Brent and the rest of the band. They broke the mold and reenergized heavy music and guitar playing. You will be missed Brent. May your legacy of guitar excellence shine forever!

Sad to see you go... one of a kind! Easily My favorite guitarist of the last 20 years! I was lucky enough to see you live three times. Here´s the way that I explain your playing to others... lots of people can make a good shrimp gumbo, each one with its own flavor and character. Rarely I taste one that just feels perfect-balanced, rich, and unforgettable. That´s how I see your guitar style. There are plenty of good players/ gumbos out there, but the way you play-the tone, the feel, the seasoning you add to every note-this is the one that hits me just right. RIP Legend!

My husband and I were leaving the casino. We just saw you in the lobby. You smiled as if you knew us and said thank you for coming out tonight. We said it was an awesome concert. I know I am "just a fan" but Brent was such a huge talent and personality....that I am absolutely heart broken. The world will NEVER see another person even HALFWAY as unique and talented as Brent. This is a huge loss to the world of creativity. My heart aches for his family and all the lives he has touched. I would say "rest in peace" but it doesn't seem fitting for his huge personality. Rest east Brent. You are loved and missed more than can be measured.

His music inspired me in so many ways as a musician. Mastodon's messages within their music were always thought provoking and extremely beautiful. I'll always be a fan, and I'll never forget the great times I've had listening to his compositions. Rest in peace Brent. Thank you for everything.

My brother and I met Brent around 2012 while walking in Little 5 Pts while he was walking his dog. He was so incredibly kind to us by having a small conversation as he continued going on about his day. A memorable experience. My heart goes out to his friends, family, and bandmates during this time. His loss is felt from the local music scene all the way across the world.
