Working in the seventies, at Haulover Beach with Brent led to many adventures. We put many sea miles on starting out helping strangers, aground on sandbar, to complete his trip to Key West. That was the start of what led to many sea stories. Always an optimist and never one to turn down an adventure, this attitude fueled many trips and kept us laughing through the years. As the years passed we were soon both working two jobs for the county and able to buy our own boats. Staying in touch over the years we were able to experience life's changes and I was able to see what remained a constant in Brent's life that I have always admired. I belive anyone with Brent's attitude, zest for life, compassion towards people should never forgotten. I know that I will never forget Brent or what he stood for throughout his life. I will miss our time together.

I knew Brent since 1976 in Homestead Fla. we remained friends until his death, which I just learned of since I have been unable to reach him by phone for a few months now...it still has a VM greeting which simply says you know what to do.
Brent and his wife and young son lived next door to us and being of the same age group and same age kids, we had the same interest. I can recall countless stories of my adventures together with him over the years. None the less, we never let that drive our friendship.
He had few friends and was very private but if you were lucky enough to be his friend (I was) then you got to know everything about him. The man lived life to its fullest and he has forever enriched my life in ways not to be imagined. RIP Brent, Ill see you again someday, somewhere.
I am attaching a picture that I paid him to paint for me in 1989 of John Lennons death which still hangs to this day. He told me it was his first commissioned painting.

l meant Brent about 3 years ago and we connected right off with our love of the outdoors, boats, mopes, golf carts, painting, and drawing as well as becoming great friends. Brent was the kindness man l've ever met and he cared about others more then himself, and he was such a great joy to spend the time l did have with him as everyday was full of laughter. Brent was a ray of sunshine and he would open his window every morning looking for me to come for our next adventure of a new day. He was a bright eye morning man, that couldn't wait to start him day, whether it was inside or outside, and his knowledge, l could only wish to have it. God received a special angle and l pray people remember him and look at life as he did and love the world for all that it has. l will always remember Brent, he touched my heart and made me feel special and knowing he's not in pain any more l couldn't ask for anything more. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers, Rest in Peace my dear friend, and thank you for always calling me your "ANGEL" the last few months Marie and l took care of you... Love You to Heaven and Back...

More memories of Brent:
I remember our adventure when we sailed from Englewood to Port Charlotte. we got stuck in the mud on the way and I had to get out and push. We arrived in Port Charlotte at night and Brent did not know where to enter the port. He was totally cool about this. We ended upon stuck in the mud again and left the boat there until the next day when we retrieved it. He was a great sailor, totally laid back.
He was kind-hearted but not very neat. We were cleaning up his boat that was as dirty as could be. After an hour of cleaning, the boat was still dirty and Brent said something that I will never forget: "Let's not get carried away with this cleaning stuff". LOL. We partaked of some smoke to celebrate our efforts. Typical Brent.
We visited his Miami house just before he sold it. Some crazy people were living on a boat in his slip. As you can imagine, the house was not in a clean state. Nonetheless, we slept there. Brent said another great quote: " We are men, we can live in caves" LOL again.
I will miss him.

Brent was my friend in the last few years of his life. He was very kind to me. I took care of him when he was not feeling good and visited him in the hospital. I will miss him everyday and he will be in my heart for the rest of my life. RIP my dear friend.

I knew Brent for the last 15+ years of his life. He was a good friend. We often rode our mopeds in town and were both active in the anti-war movement. We also took several trips together, including a visit to his old stomping grounds in Miami. I will miss him.
