Brett Redden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2018.
Retired United States Navy Chief Petty Officer Brett Montclair Redden of Spotsylvania, Va. shipped out on his last deployment Friday, October 12, 2018, due to cancer, specifically leukemia, at age 41 in the Medical Respiratory ICU at the Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond. Brett was born in Savannah, GA , October 11, 1977. He graduated from Rutherford/Spindale High School in 1995. After briefly attending the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, Brett enlisted in the U.S. Navy, in which he made a career in Nuclear Engineering as an Electronics Technician, and after serving 20 years, retired in August 2017. Highly decorated in leadership roles, Brett served on four aircraft carriers including the USS Eisenhower, the USS Truman, the USS Enterprise, and the USS George H. W. Bush. Before retirement, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Technology from Thomas A. Edison State College. Brett was preceded in death by his father, former FBI agent William Leonard Redden (d.2005). He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Redden; his son, Nathan Redden; his mother and step-father, Carolyn and Clint McDonald; his former step-father, Stuart Hall; his brothers, Tony and Scott Redden; his step-brother, Matt Hall; his step-sister, Jenny Hall; and his mother-in-law, Sharon Smart. Brett enjoyed reading lengthy fantasy novels, marveling at God's creation in the night sky through telescopes he owned, playing chess, going out on cinematic adventures with our kiddo, family outings to zoos and aquariums, training newcomers in the workplace, mentoring anyone that asked for wisdom, and helping anyone that may have found themselves in need. He was called to humbly serve others by sharing the gospel of Christ through loving the Lord God first and loving others as himself. In doing this, he discovered that his greatest gift was leading others in such a way that made people "want to follow him." He left this life too early, will be greatly missed, and he made all those that knew him and were loved by him better human beings. There will be a private burial of his ashes at Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jennifer Redden, 6030 Harts Run, Spotsylvania, VA 22551.
