I am so sorry to hear of Brian's passing. I had worked with Brian at Horace Mann for the past 20 years. Even though I had never met him personally, he always went out of his way and was fantastic in getting me answers to questions I may have had, and it was usually interjected with a little of his humor, too. Brian will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Brian's family at this difficult time.

I didn't know Brian very well. He visited us in Maine for company meetings on a number of occasions and I was always struck by what a nice guy he was. I am so sorry to learn that a good person like this has been taken way too early in life. Most of all I remember his positive attitude and great big smile. May the memory of him sustain you during this time of loss.

I'm very sorry to hear of Brian's passing. I left Horace Mann over 10 years ago and only just saw Brian by chance when he was at lunch with his wife and Liz Sumpter. I'm so glad I ran into him and got to see that great smile! He was such a nice man and a great co-worker.

I only got to watch Brian for the week of training I went through with him as a new agent in training, but was blown away by his tireless work ethic and authentic passion for the people he was training and working with and also for the job he was doing. I don't like to say Brian was, because in his own way Brian is still here with all of us in our memories and our hearts. I am so proud that Brian called me friend and I have learned so much from watching him over the last year. He fought very hard to stay here with us as long as he could and for that I am thankful. Through the years, I got the chance to work with Brian on occasion at Horace Mann. I always found him to be one of the friendly, knowledgeable and good-natured person to work with. He was a role model as a colleague, and even more so an inspiration with his illness. I will miss him.

I only recently met Brian while in training with him for a week this past February.I immediately knew he was a person of great character. I was shocked upon my return shortly after that he was ill. He will be someone that I will not forget. My sincere condolences.

Brian has always been one of my "Home Office Heros." He trained me years ago as a new agent. I have since been privileged to call him my friend.

Brian was one of those rare individuals blessed with wit, intelligence and an honest desire to do all he could to ensure those that he helped start their careers with Horace Mann were successful.

Many of our current agents were trained by him, or had the opportunity to take advantage of his encyclopedic knowledge of our industry, while at the same time, benefiting from his genuine warmth and sense of humor.

He was one of the good guys. He will be sorely missed.

Please accept our most sincere condolences. We have kept Brian in our prayers ever since Grace came home from school and let us know about his illness. Although she is away at school, please know her heart is heavy and she is thinking of you, as we all are.

Mrs. Austin, I am so very sorry to hear of this loss. I only met Brian once or twice in high school, but the one thing I can remember most was that your love for one another filled the room and was really an inspiration to all of us kids. I can not imagine what you are going through, but you will be in my prayers!

Brian was a great guy. I had my first slice of Giordonnos Pizza with him. He was always very nice to me and kept a good sense of humor even when he was in pain. I'm glad I had a chance to associate with him and I'm thankful for his friendship.

Thoughts and Prayers.

Brian was a crazy, awesome, kind, super guy. I didn't work directly with him at Horace Mann, but you couldn't work here without knowing that he was one of the good guys. As my colleague said yesterday when we heard the news, "Well, there's no point in anyone wearing eye makeup today." There is a hole in the universe now. He will be missed. I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

Today, I lost the best baby brother anyone could ever ask for.

When we were younger, we would play outside in our yard, with towels pinned around our necks like superheroes. In our adult life, you became a real life superhero to so many. I will miss you & love you forever. We will be there for Luan, so rest assured that she will be loved. Even though Patty, Susie, & I lost you today, we will be here for each other too. Yes, we lost you today but now Mom & Dad have you to hold once more. We love you Brian!

Being between Mike and Brian growing up was a treat! I will always remember him running thru the house in righty whites with a 'cape' towel flying from his neck! He was always after the villains ( Mike and I). he fought the beast hard! fly high Brian.
