It feels just like yesterday, Brother, when I dropped you off on my way to work, so you could catch your flight from Whitehorse to Vancouver. The start of the first leg of your Thailand vacation. During the ten years after your first return to the Yukon in 1977, since leaving as a 4 year old; you came back and forth from Ontario before, during and after your studies at Sheridan Fine Woodworking School. You made many good friends in the Yukon and they still think fondly of you. I think of you every day, as I still live in the log cabin we dismantled, trucked 380 miles and you reassembled for me in 1982. Along with the cabin I have the beautiful little round maple side table by my easy chair with the unique triple legs made from granite diamond drill cores. It is so great for setting my early morning wake-up coffee on! That table was the last thing you designed and built before leaving the Yukon and you gave it to me as a Christmas present in 1986. It is the greatest keepsake you left me. Your love, friendship, talent and enthusiasm for life will be treasured forever.
Your loving brother, Johnny

Dear Nola and family,

We will always have good memories of Brian and we are truly grateful that we had a chance to meet him through your family gatherings... especially Christmas at your Mom's. Bless you for keeping his memory alive.

I wanted to share in this expression of love and respect for Brian. We met when he began work at the Museum and stayed close after he left.I walk by the oak tree that was planted in his memory almost every day and can report that it is growing straight and strong. It seems such a fitting tribute to Brian. He was a great friend to me and will always be missed.

Brian, the memory of your great spirit still affects so many that loved you. Your friends and family have kept this alive for our son. I know you're still beside us all being that supportive, wonderful, fun person that you are. Thank you for your love.

As a friend and colleague of Brian in the Furniture Studio at Sheridan College from 1979-83, I was inspired by his love of life and curiousity. Each year we give out an award in his name which honours someone with his character traits: in house we call it the Brian Dines all around great person award, and it goes to whoever makes our furnituremaking communtity "happen". Brian did just that and I'm glad to be able to think about him each year in that context.

All the best to Brian's family from Sheridan's Furniture Program.
