Brian was a dear friend. He was much more than a valuable client of mine. I first met Brian in late 1977 when the small manufacturer of electronic keyboards moved my family at me from Chicago to Texas to become the district sales manager for 12 states, including Texas. At that time, EVANS music City was one of our largest customers. From our first meeting, Brian and I began to develop a strong kinship. Brian was exactly one week older than me. We had very similar musical backgrounds. In 1980 the world`s largest Manufacturer of guitars and amplifiers hired me to be their district sales manager for Texas and Louisiana. Brian`s store continued to be a major force in marketing and selling our products. Although we didn´t socialize outside of business hours, which included many many good natured business lunches. I considered Brian to be a dear friend.

Brian was such a character and mentor to me. He would always said to me when I walked through the doors of Evans Music, " What did ya'll blow up now Griffith" He always had a special place in his heart for the band I played in. " The Triumphs" will never forget his genuine love and friendship. RIP my friend.

Evans Music City was just that; a place you walked in to, and immediately felt transported to a world where MUSIC was everything. It was a candy store for aspiring young players, and the best part (after the rush of seeing all that luscious hardware on the walls, like treasure stacked in Aladdin's Cave) was listening to the old hands like Brian and Red with their fantastic stories of the good, the bad and the crazy of being a musician...and most of it is crazy.
Everyone there had a distinct personality, with Brian "herding cats" and keeping it running smoothly. I feel sorry for players who did not have that experience coming up. The eccentricity was electric, the love of the craft realer than real, the personal touch unmistakable. The memories that were made at that time will never, ever fade from those fortunate enough to have experienced them.
Godspeed, Brian. Settle back and play something sweet...

I got my first guitar from Red, a rare dy87,. with Brian looking on. As many times happens with extraordinarily generous people, Brian developed a crusty curmudgeon exterior with witty jibes to disguise his loving heart. He let me be me when I worked for him, smoking cigars in his office. I saw him do works of love and give generously from his heart over and over. I have many stories of that kindness which always include, "He really didn't need to be THAT generous". I love him and his family for making me a part of their lives. I wish the best for all of them and pray that he can Rest in Peace.

My first introduction to Evan´s Music was in 1964 at the age of 8. Brian, Mr Evans and Johnny Dyson were always very supportive of my drumming aspirations.I got my first drum set there, took lessons there and always looked forward to Vox Beatle night with live music at the store. Great memories.i spoke with Brian a few years ago and thanked him. He was very appreciative and we agreed that that time in the Houston music scene was very special.

That is a stumper for me.. he has known me since I was in my mommas tummy 45 years ago. But one memory stands out the most and that´s when we threw a surprise birthday party for my dad, Clark Clem, and Brian and Hazel and the rest of the guys from the band and store were there and my pops and got his guitar out and played " Johnny Be Good" and they were jamming. I will always remember having to explain why I was calling about the Gibson guitar of dads and explaining I lost it...You will be missed Brian and glad you and dad and the guys were able to at least get together one last time a year ago. Godspeed.
