Brian Keith Neilson

Summerville, SC - 1954-2020

MSGT Brian Keith Neilson, 66, last residing in Summerville, SC, passed away on Sunday, October 4th, 2020 at Summerville Medical Center, after a brief illness. Brian was born and raised in Poughkeepsie. graduating from FDR High School in 1972.

Brian was born April 25, 1954 in Poughkeepsie, NY. the son of the late Donald Neilson and Arden Tibbetts Neilson. Brian graduated in the class of 1972, then soon after, honorably served in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant, after 20 plus years of service.

Brian had a HUGE and compassionate heart, always willing to help anyone in need. This is how he made so many friends along his life's journey. He loved music, singing and playing guitar immensely, even naming his guitars. Not too long ago, he had his favorite guitar refurbished, naming it "Mabeline", after a beautiful song he had written back in a day. Brian also enjoyed playing chess, reading, writing (he was a poet and wrote many poems over the years), was extremely spiritual which sometimes led to deep conversations, that his friends and family found so interesting. He loved to entertain and having people around always, where he was best known for being quite the comedian. His comedic way and quick wit are what he will be remembered for most of all, by family and friends alike. All of the funny stories are too countless to list. Brian was also an avid dog lover, leaving behind Amber Leigh & Harley, whom he adored. Brian dedicated his time and his unconditional love to both always. Brian and the kids had a golden retriever years ago that was extremely special, and he and Aussie Bear are probably running around in heaven right now!

In addition to his wife, Judy Neilson of Summerville, S.C., Brian leaves behind one son, SFC Nicholas Andrew Neilson (Nana) of Fayetteville, AR, one daughter, Rebecca Danielle Klvana (Thomas), a step son, Jonas Farris (Tracy) of Ventura, IA, a step daughter, Julie Spaminato (John) of Charlotte, NC, three sisters, Donna Knapp of Poughkeepsie, NY, Karen Runza (Jimmy) of Hyde Park, NY, and Linda Hamill of Hyde Park, NY. Seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four nieces, one nephew, one great niece and one great nephew. Brian was blessed to have three friends that remained in contact over the years and were good friends to our family, and there are a lot of cherished memories for my sisters and I. Bobby (BFF), Frank, and Joel, please know that each and every one of your friendships, meant the world to Brian, as well as us. Thank you for your moral support, during such a sad, difficult time.

We are sadden by the loss of your loved one. We met Brian many years ago while we were all on active duty stationed at Charleston AFB. Brian was indeed a character. He was funny and talented, never a dull moment. Those were great times. It's hard to grasp that fact that he is gone, but he is not far away, just that veil between here and the other side separates him from his loved ones. Our deepest condolences to all his family members. He will be missed. May time heal the pain.
