Brian Perlee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 24 to Jun. 25, 2014.
Perlee, Brian Hungerford ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Brian H. Perlee completed his life on June 19, 2014 in the very same way he lived it- at peace, at the side of his beloved wife Donna, and with a quiet sense of dignity, strength, and courage. Born in Albany on June 21, 1951, Brian was the son of Gordon and Marcia Perlee. He graduated Guilderland Central High School and earned his MBA from SUNY Albany. Brian began his career with the New York State Comptroller, and served for many years as special deputy comptroller for New York City, where he played an integral role in bringing the city out of bankruptcy. He later served as director of the New York State Assembly Minority Ways and Means Committee, and served for several years as deputy commissioner of the New York State Department of Mental Health. Brian was blessed with an incredibly sharp and inquisitive mind and subtle sense of humor that he maintained until the very last. He was gifted as a craftsman - free-building exact scale replicas of buildings, aircraft, and boats. His patience knew no bounds. He took great pleasure in vintage cars - a Porsche, MG, and Jaguar and he found happiness and contentment at "Highlands", his family home in the Adirondacks. He loved his Florida bayside home and cruising with his wife and family. Above all else, Brian treasured his time with his wife, his children, grandchildren and extended family, and they, in turn, cherished the time they were to spend with him. It was a joy to be in his presence. Brian is survived by his wife, the former Donna Barner; his mother and father, Gordon and Marcia Perlee of Altamont; his children, Christopher of Albany, Daniel (Melissa) of Los Angeles, Jennifer of Scotch Plains, N.J.; and his grandchildren, Max, Hazel and Darren. Brian is also survived by his brothers, Gordon (Erin) Perlee, David (Kathleen) Perlee and Jeffrey Perlee; and sisters, Lisa (Stephen) Puvogel and Suzanne (Kevin) Hale and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Brian's life and time with us is planned for Friday June 27, 2014 at 4 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Maple Avenue, Altamont. All are welcome in celebrating this most remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Brian's name to the American Cancer Society.

To Donna and the Perlee family,

I just discovered this guest book, so please forgive the delayed entry.

I'm still blown away by Brian's passing. I often got together with him when I was back East, and fortunately made it to see him in Florida last year. He was the same during his difficult treatment as he was through the more than 50 years I've known him -- smiling, joking, just a genuinely good guy. So many great memories that we can all remember him by.

Thanks, Donna, for all the wonderful support you provided to Brian -- and the same to the whole family, who I understand was with him at the end. My thoughts are with you all in this time of such shared loss.

Best,

The Perlee family,
I was so sadden to hear of Brian's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Brian when we attended GCHS, because we were in the same home room and our seating assignments had been next to each other. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Donna and all Perlee family members. I am so sorry to learn of Brian's passing and my thoughts are with you at this sad time. He was such a neat guy with a terrific wit. Some may remember him drumming with the band the "Nhoj" with Gordon singing lead at the Parkwood house in 1966. So many great memories that we all have of him. My best to all of you.

It is so sad to have to be writing this. To Aunt Marcia and Uncle Bud and all my cousins, he will be missed by so many. Hopefully he is right now having a coke with Uncle Art and making model boats with my dad.

To the Perlee Family...I am so sorry for your loss. I met Brian many, many years ago during my college days with Lisa. I remember him having that Perlee sense of humor - the kind that sneaks up on you. Hoping that among the tears and heavy hearts, that you are able to celebrate Brian's life and keep his spirit with you always.
Sincerly, Colleen (Snihur) Anklin

Donna, Aunt Marcia, Uncle Bud, all the Perlee family: Brian was a quiet light of dignity and love. His smile made one smile no matter what. It is the quieter, precious soul that leaves such a huge hole in our hearts. Our love, prayers and hearts are with each of you today, on Friday and the days and weeks to come.
