Brian Post Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2024.
Brian Theodore Post entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 6, 2024 after a five-month battle with an aggressive form of leukemia. He will be remembered as a loving family man, an attentive and affectionate grandfather, and a man of conscience and kindness who was always ready to lend a helping hand with a smile on his face.

Brian was born to Harold J. and Frieda Reich Post on June 5, 1948 in the village of Catskill, NY. He spent much of his childhood exploring the abundant natural world of the Catskill Mountain region, expanding his intellect and imagination through extensive reading, developing his talents in music, and playing sports and games with neighborhood friends.

As a teenager, he came to saving faith when a young man shared the gospel with him in a personal way after a Sunday church service in Long Island, NY. The authenticity of his faith in Christ was evidenced by the focus and pursuits of the rest of his life.

Voted the "Mr. Congeniality" of his senior class, Brian played varsity baseball and soccer and graduated from Catskill High School in 1966. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Central College in Pella, IA with an emphasis in organ performance.

After college, Brian moved to Denver, CO for nearly a decade, having fallen in love with the American West and the Rocky Mountains during previous travels. While living in Denver, he pursued his passion for the mountains as part of the Rocky Mountain Rescue and as Safety Officer for the Colorado Mountain Club. He also worked a number of fascinating jobs, from building radio towers on top of mountain passes to teaching middle school music during the first year of integration of Denver public schools, guiding his students toward both musical and social harmony.

He married Beatrice Ann (Bea) Engel of Selkirk, NY in March 1979 after proposing to her at the aptly-named Loveland Pass on the Continental Divide. The couple soon moved back to the Hudson Valley to start a family. They had two children: Brian Christopher and Catherine Elizabeth (Caity), both born in Albany, NY.

While raising his young children, Brian primarily worked as a nursing home personnel administrator. Moved by the desire for every person to have the story of God's redemption through Jesus in their heart language, he and Bea then pursued full-time missions with Wycliffe Bible Translators. In 1993, they relocated their family to work at the International Linguistics Center in Dallas, TX.

Brian served in finance, recruitment, and project management roles for Wycliffe, including an overseas assignment as Finance Director for the Central America Branch in Guatemala. Though formally "retiring" in 2018, he maintained part-time duties until he received his leukemia diagnosis.

Both musicians, Brian and Bea (Westminster Choir College, '75) also served in numerous churches over the years with Brian as organist and pianist. The congregations of The First Dutch Reformed Church (Catskill, NY), Our Savior's Reformed Church (Lakewood, CO), Applewood Valley UMC (Golden, CO), Clermont Bible Church (Livingston, NY), and Union Church (Guatemala City, GT) were primary recipients of Brian's talents, but his ministry extended far beyond official church duties to nursing homes, retirement homes, Wycliffe gatherings, evangelical organizations of all kinds, and the family living room - all where his skillful, creative, and energetic music-making inspired joyful and lively praise of the Lord.

That energy was always at its best when accompanying the great hymns of the faith. He and his family take courage in the saving love of Jesus on his behalf and the promise of a new, incorruptible body for all who trust in Christ on the day of resurrection.

Brian is survived by his wife, Bea, his children, Brian C. (Becky) and Caity (John), his brother, Paul (Bonnie), and four grandchildren: Hudson, Emmie, Teddy and Shepherd.

His family invites all who are able to join us for a music-filled celebration of his life at the Event Center of the International Linguistics Center (7500 W Camp Wisdom Rd, Dallas, TX 75236) on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian's name to Wycliffe Bible Translators (P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862) and directed to the supplemental income fund (SIF) for missionary families experiencing a shortfall.

I was so sorry to hear about Brian's passing as it is truly a loss for all who knew him. I knew him from Central College and was always enthralled when he sat at the piano and improvised, especially on Greensleeves. It always moved me to tears. May Brian rest in the arms of the Lord and may his family find peace in God.

I was a childhood friend of Brian. Together we played on Catskill High School's baseball team. Brian had a hit that won one of the games!
When Brian lived in Denver, I got to visit him several times. Once, in December, he said we should go to Arches National Monument. It was in the desert, he said, so it would be warm there. Not so, it was 3 degrees the night we slept under the clear sky.
Brian and Bea's wedding was a thing of beauty. I was privileged to attend. They were so well suited for each other. Kind, loving, gentle, understanding are but some of the adjectives i would use to describe them. When they moved to Dallas, we sort of lost touch. The last time I saw them was when they returned to Catskill for Brian's father's funeral.
Brian's obituary in my local paper, the Catskill Daily Mail, gave no information as to how I might send a condolence to Bea. Brian's cousin provided information to me that a more extensive obituary was posted online. Hence, my late remembrance of a dear friend. May he rest in peace. Nate Hamm

I was grateful to have worked with Wycliffe with Brian along with his wife Bea. Brian served with humility, joy and love with all he came in contact with. His love was the Lord, His church, his wife and family and a desire to see all people have a Bible in a language that spoke to a person´s heart. He served faithfully in all he did and will fondly be remembered, especially for his love of music and Christian hymns.

Thank you Post family for sharing that wonderful pictorial and musical celebration of Brian Senior.

I remember Brian´s infectious smile and laughter. I remember his fingers dancing across the keyboard expressing his inner joy. I remember his kindness and strong character, following in the footsteps of his Lord Jesus. His example has and will continue to influence my faith walk, spurring me to seek first the Kingdom and God and His righteousness.

I miss you all and wish I could be there to give each of you all hugs.

What an incredible, God-honoring memorial service!! Brian Post is one of the finest Christian men I've ever known. Jean and I were blessed to work alongside he and Bea in Dallas for many years. They blessed Jean's parents, Don & Launa Davis, in so many ways through the clinic, Brian's serving with the Cowan Apts. And of course they faithfully blessed all of us on the International Linguistics Center with their incredible musical talents. The emotion shown by the pianist today after playing the final note of "God be with you 'til we meet again" was so beautiful and such a great indication of the incredible significance of the life of Brian Post! All glory to God for Brian's life so very well lived!!

Brian was the most caring and compassionate person I have ever met. I worked with Brian from 1982 to 1993 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck NY. He was our Personnel Director which in 1993 when Brian
was leaving I was promoted to fill his
position. I could fill the position but never fill the really big shoes he left to fill. He was deeply missed by all at the nursing home in 1993. I will never forget what a wonderful person he was and all that he gave of himself. I also remember Bea and her beautiful voice. I want to extend my deepest sympathies in the loss of Brian to you and your family.

Brian played a key role in my wife's and my journey to Wycliffe. He was so patient with us as we explored options and learned to step out in faith. I am so thankful for him.

Brian was a kind, friendly neighbor and you knew immediately upon meeting him that he was a man of God. I would see him every now and then because we shared an alley at the rear of our homes. He was always smiling, waving and speaking. I will miss his presence in our neighborhood. God bless Bea, their children, grandchildren, other family and friends.

Brian was a selfless teacher and radiant source of optimism and joy. For Erin and me, Brian and Bea are our Texas family, life counselors, and adopted grandparents to Natalie and Ian.
Brian, you are loved, missed, and in our thoughts every day.

Brian was possibly the sweetest man I´ve ever known. He always had a smile on his face with the love of Jesus shining through. A truly meek man who was always willing to lend a hand. A wonderful example of the hands & feet and face of Jesus to all he met.

When we worked together Brian was one of my favorite people. Always positive with a ready laugh. On the work side he kept the Lord in focus, had a lot of common sense and very worthy experience to bring to the table. I miss you Brian!

Brian was the organist at First Christian Church, Aurora, Colorado when we began attending there. The instrument was awful but Brian could make it sound good.

Several years later, Brian and Bea provided music when Dale and I were married just 3 months before he and Bea were wed.
