I first met Brian in 2001 when I started working for the Government as a civilian. We worked together in the Bayou La Batre area overseeing work done by some of the small contractors. I remember going on a trip with him to oversee work in Ingleside Texas on a Missile Defense Agency platform. One morning while waiting to enter the shipyard, Brain got out of the vehicle to go for a walk. A couple of minutes later I saw him talking to a gentleman in a pickup. About 15 minutes later we entered the shipyard and I asked Brian who the guy was, assuming it was someone that Brian knew. He said that it was a worker that he struck up a conversation with. That was one of the great things about Brian, he never met a stranger and would talk with anyone that would listen. Brian was a great friend and will be missed.

My 50 year bromance has temporarily be interrupted.
I met Brian in fall of 1972. I was entering the 8th grade as a transfer student at Little Flower Catholic School.
We instantly became friends. Little did I know how strong the friendship would be. Since 1972 together we experienced so much fun. High school was a blast of course with all the craziness of youth.
After we graduated HS Brian and Gidget got married and off they went to create the sweetest family imaginable. Brian and I stayed close through all the years, he always helping me when he could. Brian always was there for me through tragedies and celebrations. He has been such a dear friend to our family as well.
After all these years of fighting diabetes, it started catching up to him in 2019, he survived a 40 day stint and at hospital. That´s when we said let´s seize the days left. He had dialysis M,W,F and looked forward to all our trips on Tuesday and Fridays. These days were our OFF days. No doctors, no dialysis, no problems. So off to nature we would go. Little did Brian know how much he helped me in my life. He had a calming effect on me and just being around one who didn´t complain about his ominous situation.
Brian loved all the day trips and the weekends at the gulf. He loved nature so very much.
When my son Nicholas and his niece Rebecca had my grandson Eli Sierke Brian was so happy. He would say how we were now forever connected through blood. Our connection just strengthened tenfold. So regarding family, Brian has the most amazing wife, 3 kids and 8 grandchildren. He was comfortable with the Lord and was ready to go on the next journey. He fought hard the last few years so he could spend time with his loved ones. Now there will be no more surgeries, amputations or pain.
Yesterday we sent Brian Christopher Smith on a one way trip to heaven.
My 50 year bromance has been temporarily interrupted.

Brian and I grew up together in Mobile and became real close at McGill. He was like a brother to me.
