Brian Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 28, 2017.
Brian Joseph Smith was a proud son of Colorado, a fifth generation native. The loving husband and best friend of Colleen, dear dad of Hannah (Michael) Bralish, Jackson Smith, and Logan Smith, and best "B" of six little ladies. Survived by three sisters, one brother, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a rambling wreck from Golden tech, and one "helluva" engineer, serving in the oil and gas industry for over 30 years. Brian was well respected and admired by all of his colleagues.

Brian was a talented musician, avid traveler, and skilled craftsman, but enjoyed time with friends and family best. He was always an example of generosity and kindness, to friend and stranger alike, and perfectly captured God's command to love and serve all.

Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 11385 Grant Dr., Northglenn, Colorado, on Friday, January 12, 2018. Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM, with Mass to follow at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for donations to be made to Growing Home Food Bank growinghome.org.

Shelly and I just heard this heartbreaking news. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to Colleen and Brian's family and many, many friends. My life was truly made richer all the years I got to know Brian. I'm so glad we got to play music together for the years we did. I'll never forget the first time we played guitars together on a wellsite. . . a wellsite of all places! I learned so much from Brian on how to be a father, husband and friend. He will be missed.

We are heartbroken of Brian's passing. We became friends with the Smith family when they lived in Tuscaloosa and have loved them ever since. We always seem to pick up with them wherever we left off on every visit after they returned to Colorado. Brian and Colleen have always been the lovable couple. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
We pray that the peace of Christ comes to your family soon.

Brian was the nicest, most friendly guy you'd ever want to know. I'm so happy I was able to get to know Brian and Colleen from our 'see each other every week at mass' times. I'm so happy we sat together to watch the girls sing and perform in their Christmas program this past December. What a blessing. Mario, Sofie and I are sending you all love and comfort as Brian will be so very, very missed. May the Lord comfort you and send you grace. There are no words, I can only send my love.

Bless the Lord, my soul, and bless God's holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul, who leads me into life. - Taize

Brain taught me this beautiful, meditative song we sang at Holy Cross. I can still hear him singing the bass part beside me as I sang the soprano part. He sang and smiled with an assurance of eternal life that I know he is living today.

Brian was a ray of fun and light, and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. My heart is broken for Colleen, her children and grandchildren. May the Lord surround you with His light, the Most Precious Holy Spirit speak comfort to you, and God guide you during such a difficult time.

It was always a joy to be around Brian. He was a goofy, funny guy that was also very talented, smart, caring and giving. I will never forget the first time he pulled out those orange flags at a safety meeting and started waving them around for a "safety moment". I will also never forget how he helped us all deal with the tragic events on 9/11. I am so glad and feel blessed to have known him. God Bless the Smith family and all who are grieving for him.

I'm still at a loss of words. Brian was my very first boss out of college. He then became a close friend and mentor of mine. I can say that Brian had a huge impact on who I am today and who I hope to still become. He was a great friend, leader, and mentor. Megan and I will greatly miss Brian's humor, laugh, and love for life. We miss you Brian. We will always hold our memories of Brian close to our hearts. Colleen and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Big B was always such an amazing guy. Never anything but warm, welcoming, and friendly. He was always ready with a corny joke or a song to make us laugh. Thank you Brian for being such a great, fun loving, and caring man. Our hearts are broken with his loss. It was such a pleasure to be around him. We love you all and know that we're always thinking of you guys. Love is everlasting.

We are writing this with broken hearts, but also feeling blessed & honored to have spent so much time with Brian and Colleen. We will cherish the memories, wonderful vacations, parties, lots of singing, dancing and of course laughing. Brian was the life of the party, best guitar player, bartender, driver on vacation, helper, hugger and friend.
His great love and devotion to the Lord and to his wife, children and grandchildren was admired by everyone who knew him. Brian's kind soul & delightful personality touched so many and never will be forgotten. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to Colleen and her family.
P.S. "B" we are going to watch over your girl!! Lots of Love

I'm very sad about Brian passing. I always remember that he has simply moved on into eternal life, but however, there is still a hole left by his leaving. Brian lighten any room in which he walked. He created camaraderie and high performance in any organization he joined or lead. He is kind, compassionate, and [insert any and all good and nice descriptors here] :) My prayers for all hurting at losing Brian.

Tom and I are very sad for the loss of Brian. We found out just yesterday and wish to send our love and prayers to the Smith family, In 2004, when we adopted our 5 year old son, Christopher, Brian and Colleen were there for us. Brian had a great impact on Chris through his music and humor. Then when we had our 2nd adopted child Katie baptized at Holy Cross Church about a year later, it was Brian who captured all of it on video for us. He was laughing so hard as our 16 month old little girl spit on the priest and proceeded to slap him in the face. If It wasn't for Brian's willingness to stay after Mass and help us, we would never had captured this memorable event on video. Brian is such a wonderful man and his life filled with humor and joy definitely touched our family! Brian will truly be missed!

In the early 80's, Bellwether Exploration Company was pioneering drilling in the Codell/ Niobrara play. We were a young and rough family business that my Dad, me and several others started. One of our friends, Bill Smith, then the head of the Colorado Oil and Gas Commission asked if we might have a place for his son to break out with. An offer we couldn't refuse!! Brian was a modest, quite graduate from Mines (that, as it turned out, knew more than all of us) who put his head down and learned his craft with a pipe wrench, gauge line and dedication. He always seemed poised for something. In 1986, we merged Bellwether with a Houston company and we lost touch with Brian. However, my brother, who Brian worked closely with in Greeley, traded Christmas cards with him for years. In the last 5 years, or so, I caught back up with Brian because a colleague of mine ended up working for him at Anadarko. I never heard anyone say a bad word about Brian and, from reading all of the tributes here, that holds true. I'm most proud to see all of the praise from his work colleagues. I'd like to think I made a contribution to his management style.

To all of Brian's family members, know that the memory of Brian, the memories I have of Brian, will keep his spirit alive in our hearts. Our condolences and prayers. Rest In Peace old friend.

I have lost count of how many times I was able to collaborate together with Brian musically; from Christmas caroling down office halls, to faux Guitar Hero bands & all the way to real live gigs I loved it all.
Brothers in music are we, thank you for your joyful spirit Brian, you are forever an inspiration!

Brian, you were ray of sunshine at Anadarko, Denver. You gave us goofy folk like you the permission to be just how we are and even encouraged more goofiness. When you became Director I was so happy because you worked so hard and deserved that. Having you as a manager, I felt like you were my dad, always looking out for me especially when my health took a turn for the worse. I enjoyed caroling with you and sharing that same sense of wanting to give back to the community. I am blessed I got to see you dance one last time with your sweetheart Coleen at the Christmas party of 2017. I always admired how you both were the best of friends and true loves. Anadarko and the community will not be the same without you. God bless you and you will be missed dearly because you left such an amazing legacy and impact on so many.

Most people would complain about their big brother growing up, but that wasn't the case with Brian. He was always kind and thoughtful. His friends were my friends and when he graduated from high school, I really missed him. We remained close always and I'm so thankful to have had him in my life.

I met Brian through my husband Ted. Whenever I was around Brian, I walked away desiring to be a better person. The joy of the Lord definitely shone forth from him. I admired him so much. His carefree, humorous outlook on life, his marriage, his friendships were all a testament of what an awesome guy he was. He had no problem dancing like nobody was watching, and even if they were, he wouldn't care as long as he was enjoying life and making colleen smile. He will be SO missed. Our hearts go out to you colleen and family.

I was able to have the privilege to work with Brian for the last 20 years. He will be greatly missed by all. My last memory will be of the Christmas carolers coming down the hall full of laughter and fun. Keep his memories close and they help you at this time of great sorrow.

I had the pleasure of having Brian as a mentor while at HS Resources. He truly was a special person, someone who took time to teach as he helped solve problems. I'll never forget some of his golf attire, or him frantically waving his neon slow signs during meetings. You will be missed. Prayers go out to the Smith family.

I was fortunate to have known Brian since 2004. There are not enough words to describe what an incredible human being and colleague he was. His love for his family, sense of humor, pride in his work and in the well-being of others came through every day. His positivity, compassion and character are something we should all aspire to. Deepest condolences to Colleen and the entire Smith family. You are in our hearts and prayers.

It was our pleasure to become friends and coworkers with Brian in 2004. He was genuinely one of the best men we have ever met. Wisdom, caring, intelligence, and the craziest sense of humor were just a few of his traits, but it was his friendship and commitment to others that will always stand out most. May God bless Colleen and the Smith family.
