Brian Stahl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2025.
Wilmington - Brian Arthur Stahl, a decorated Vietnam Veteran and proud Eagle Scout, passed away on November 22, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area, Brian was the son of Ernest and Murice Stahl. Brian embodied the values of service, leadership, and integrity-qualities carried throughout his life.

Brian attended Adrian College, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He later joined his brother, Ted, in co-owning a small family business that began in their parents' garage cutting felt letters and numbers. Under the steadfast leadership of Brian and his brother, that humble operation-Stahls' Inc.-grew into an international apparel decoration company known for its innovation, craftsmanship, and commitment to excellence. Brian took great pride in helping build a business that honored its family roots while expanding its reach around the world. He was admired for his exacting standards, business insight, and deep respect for the company's employees.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brian found joy and challenge on the water. An avid sailor, he competed for many years in the Marion/Newport to Bermuda and Port Huron to Mackinac races, embracing the camaraderie and adventure that sailing offered. His love of the open water reflected his spirited nature and unwavering determination.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Janice Galasso Stahl; his brother, Ted Stahl, and wife, Mary; his adopted son, Michael Stahl, and wife, Brooke; and their children, Grady and Mia. He also shared a special bond with his niece, Sarah Free, and her family-Travis, Evan, and Reese-who were constant sources of care and support whenever he needed. He is further survived by twelve nieces and nephews and twenty great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom treasured his wisdom, humor, and steady presence.

Those who knew Brian will remember his devotion and abundant generosity toward friends and family alike, and the strength of character that guided him throughout his life. His legacy is one of resilience, loyalty, and love-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In honor of his military service, Brian will be inurned with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Celebrations of Life will be held in both Michigan and North Carolina. Due to private club requirements please RSVP to Cheri Johnson, [email protected] (586-295-2710) for attendance instructions for the Celebration of Life service in Michigan which will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club on Lake Shore Rd. in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI. The North Carolina Celebration of Life service will be held on February 14, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC; please RSVP to Jan Stahl, [email protected] for the NC service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his honor to Tunnels to Towers or Wounded Warriors.
