Bridget A. "Breege" Elkington

It's hard to say goodbye to our dear friend Breege, but our lives are richer because of knowing her for the past 29 years. We first met Breege and Graham when they came riding up to our cabin at Stuart Island on a motorcycle. She was wearing shorts, a tank top, tennis shoes and a baseball hat. She truly looked like a "foxy lady" with her auburn curly hair and frosted lipstick! She always seemed younger than she actually was.

She delighted in life, loved laughing and had a wonderful sense of humor. We recall the lovely dinners she used to serve when she set a beautiful table (without plates). This was because she "warmed" the dinner plates, which was her extra special touch!

We will always remember her kind and generous spirit. She had a "keen" intellect before this unyielding disease slowly took her away from us. We are saddened that she missed some of the happiest years with her grandchildren.

During her last few months, even when she no longer was able to speak, we could still see the sparkle in her eyes. She was charming and truly "effervescent".

Although her mind was stolen from her, she still set a powerful example of love for family, friends, and her devotion to God. We are comforted in knowing tht she is in Heaven now.

Graham, Very sorry to hear about your loss. Breege always talked to me about your pilot son David (who she was so proud of) at BFI before your flights to the cabin in the islands.

Dear Graham, I was shocked to hear about my colleague's passing. Breege has always been a favorite of mine while working in the injection room side by side for so many years. I have such fond memories of us on outings to your cabin on Steward Island and to the ocean in the Ramamurti beach house. We were room mates one weekend. I'll never forget her jaunty walk, ready smile and laugh and wonderful personality. God Bless you and David during your time of grief. My prayers are with you and her sisters.

I have very special memories of working with Breege in the injection room. She was an excellent, compassionate nurse, a wonderful mentor, and an all around fun friend. She loved life and her family was the most important part of her life. That was always obvious in the way she loved talking about the fun times they shared together. I was honored to work six years with her and I know my life was blessed because of that opportunity. I am sad that I will be unable to attend the service that honors her life.
