MALE, BRITA L., 76



Schenectady - Brita L. Male, 76, of Schenectady passed away peacefully at home, Saturday Sept 29, 2007 at Kingsway Village. Born in Harrison, NY on Dec. 21, 1930 she was the daughter of Robert and Bertha Olson. Brita married her true soul mate, Kenneth J. Male on Dec. 26, 1970. She was educated in Harrison, NY and attended Potsdam State Teachers College. As a child she posed with her mother for Norman Rockwell, which was published in the Saturday Evening Post on December 18, 1937, to illustrate "Joanna's Christmas Star". During High School she was active in singing and with choir groups and could be counted on to lead everyone and anyone in song whenever music was played. Brita sang on WGY Radio and with Gary Stevens, a local band. Brita spent her younger years working for NBC, as a tour guide, in New York City. She moved to the Schenectady area in 1960, and went to work as a realtor and broker for Welbourne and Purdy. She was a member of Niskayuna Reformed Church. Brita, along with her husband, formalized and ran the biannual 356th Fighter Group reunions of the WWII Army Air Corps. She was an avid golfer, belonging to Mohawk Golf Club, Niskayuna, NY, Silver Springs Shores and Golden Hills in Ocala, FL. Mrs. Male is survived by her husband Kenneth J. Male; 2 sons, Gregg Mayfield, Buffalo, NY and Mark (Peggy) Mayfield, Upton, MA; a daughter, Siri (Louis) Pardi, Niskayuna, NY; a stepson, Paul Male, Saratoga Springs, NY; stepdaughters Debbie Rock, Troy, NY and Rebecca (Ken) Ellsworth, Binghamton, NY; 6 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and best friends, Robert and Sally Connor. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter Donna Barrows. Funeral services will be held Thursday Oct. 4, 2007 at 11:00am at Niskayuna Reformed Church (3041 Troy Schenectady Rd.) with Rev. Scott DeBlock officiating. Interment will be in Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy-Schenectady Rd., Niskayuna, NY 12309 or the charity of one's choice. Services are under the direction of Griswold Funeral Home, Schenectady, NY.
