I met Brooks as a young boy just after he moved into our neighborhood on Sherbrook Road in Lutherville in 1964. I gave him one of my baseballs. Brooks didn't just autograph it, he took it to an Orioles game at Memorial Stadium and returned it to me with the team's autographs. It's been the best memory of my lifetime. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Robinson and the Robinson Family. Brooks, Rest in Peace. Robert Mahoney

Sending my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Robinson and the whole Robinson family.
Brooks was the best third baseman ever!! He was one of my heroes growing up. He was a wonderful man and a class act on and off the field. There is no finer person than Brooks Robinson.
Thanks, Brooks for all the memories. God bless you and your family.

Working in news at WXOW-TV in La Crosse, Wisconsin I discovered that our new weekend sport anchor was also an Orioles fan. One of the perks in news was getting passes to cover sports teams. Bill Evans and I saw this as a perfect opportunity to catch an Orioles game against the Twins at Met stadium in Bloomington while getting interviews to broadcast the following week.
Teams allowed reporters on the field during warmups so we filmed our interviews and shot B-roll. We had pretty much finished as the players started shagging balls and warming up. As we were standing near third base who came jogging out to warm up but Brooks Robinson. As a fan he was Mr. Oriole, a superstar. Even mythical. On that Saturday in 1977 Brooks had been with the team for more than 20 years and was a player-coach. "Let´s get an interview", I said. Bill motioned him over and being the gentleman that Brooks was, he obliged. During the conversation he revealed to us that he was announcing his retirement as a player the next day. What? We are with a legend and he´s giving this small market crew a scoop? And for all of our years of loving the Birds we get to be with Brooks on his last day as an Oriole Player?
In hindsight perhaps Brooks wanted to have that one last interview as a player. We were there and the opportunity presented itself. For Bill and me it was a memory of a lifetime. His love of the game and respect for fans and us was evident in that one small gesture of just one more interview while still a player. You were special Brooks. Thank you.
Heartfelt sympathy to all who were close to Brooks.

I wrote to Brooks in 1972 telling him i wanted to meet him. He sent a picture postcard with a message to show them at the office he would try to meet me. They showed him the card and came in from batting practice and met me! What an honor. I have a picture! In the 80's i saw in a newspaper he would be in Carlisle PA promoting Bush beer. I was there! I have the pictures of he and I and one with my hubby! Again, in the late 90's I saw where he would be appearing at an Ollie's grand opening in Camp Hill area! I was there, first in line! I showed him the pictures of us from previous years! Now another picture and it would be the last picture! These pictures are over a 50 year period! They are my treasure! He was the greatest baseball player and kind human being I ever knew. I am 84 now and the highlight of my life was meeting Brooks and having pictures with him. My hero. such a sad time.

Since my maiden name is Robinson, I always claimed that Brooks and Frank Robinson were my cousins! Years ago when attending Orioles games, we always sat in seats between third base and home plate to get the best view of Brooks.I am so glad that we were at Camden Yards when Brooks was honored last September. He will always be remembered as an incredible third baseman and a wonderful human being who loved his adopted home town of Baltimore.

In addition to Brooks' fun, generosity, humbleness, and ability to bring out the best in people around him that others have commented on here, there's something interesting about Brooks that I forgot to mention in my last comment about Brooks, who I saw over the 80s while working at Crown Central Petroleum offices with him, and then at Patrick's Restaurant in Cockeysville in the 90s while I was a server and where he & his wife sometimes came in for dinner.
He had a great walk! During these occasions where I saw him, he was of course not dressed in a baseball uniform, but in a suit. But his walk couldn't be confined by a suit. I'm a budding writer now, and somewhat trained to notice characteristics of people, & it was impossible to miss his long stride, easy natural gait that I can only describe as an athlete's walk - full of purpose, which obviously took him far.
The ancient Romans used to judge a man's character and his future success by his walk. The Romans would have liked Brooks' walk.

Not just a winner on the field, "Brooksie" elicited smiles and enthusiastic positive energy from fans whenever I saw him while I was working as a secretary at the downtown offices of Crown Central Petroleum in the Blaustein Building where he had an office on the 18th floor in the 80s, or seeing him and his wife coming in for dinner at Patrick's Restaurant in Cockeysville where I was a server in the 90s. Always happily signing autographs on whatever scrap was available and talking with people wherever he was found..........They don't make 'em like him anymore.

A Brooksy fan and as a little leaguer was always playing the #5 position like my hero-moved here at 9 yrs old from Rochester NY in 1966 to Baltimore like it was a dream, like a fan promotion for me from Triple A to the Majors. The Os won the WS that year and my heart leapt as high as BRobby did- see him running to McNally in an Olympic-like leap! I have loved MLB baseball ever since. He was so loyal to B´more, like Ripken, in a time the stars were flipping teams. Thanks. Fr. John Barry, Burtonsville. And Catholic Athletes for Christ priest. To fellow Catholic Brooks

My sincerest condolences to the family. God bless. I remember listening to my Tigers play the Orioles on my transistor radio. Brooks would rob Al Kaline or other players of a hit. I remember watching Brooks making incredible plays on TV at the World Series. My grandfather moved to Delaware in 1956 and he became a Baltimore Orioles fan.

I grew up in Baltimore going to a ton of games, however my fondest memory was when my mom shared a room while in the hospital with his beloved wife. WOW what an experience as a youngster. Fast forward many many years I´ve raised my children on Orioles baseball. My oldest son, who is an huge Baseball fan/player, appreciated Brooks talent on and off the field so much, that he named his 3 month old on after him. May you rest in peace and may the good Lord bring comfort to your family.

I listened to the Orioles v. Tigers when the Orioles played them. When Transistor Radios came in vogue, the summer was ballgames on the tractor. Mr. Robinson made a very impressionable stamp by his fabulous play. It made time pass quickly. My condolences to the family.

Defensively, the best ever at 3rd base. Very respectable hitter, too. Excellent character and integrity, on and off the field. A joy to watch when he was on the field, and a true exemplar in so many respects.
Rest in peace, and thank you, Brooks. You were a truly decent gentleman, and a wonderful one-of-kind star on the diamond.
