BRUCE CHESTON Obituary
Cheston, Bruce Cecil, born April 3, 1943, died peacefully surrounded by his family in the early hours of October 3, 2013. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Edith Cheston; survived by his wife, Linda; children, Scott (Fawn), Kim (Scott), Robin, Sandra (Ian), Janis, Allison, Cecily (Adam); grandchildren, Cecily and Riccie-Lee; siblings, Brian, Keith (Sheila) and Karen; many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and very special family friend Cheryl. Bruce was raised on a farm on the Regina Plains. He was a Queen Scout and a Lone Scout in his youth. He attended elementary and high school in Regina and completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in 1966. Bruce farmed the Cheston family homestead until 2000. Throughout his career in agriculture, he was instrumental in the design of the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance program, as well as a pioneer in introduction of lentil and pulse crops to the Western Canada. Many winters Bruce administered programs for both the Provincial and Federal Governments, serving many farmers during tough times. Bruce was an active member of Western Canadian Wheat Growers, Pulse Growers, Flax Growers and Flax Council of Canada. Bruce also had a passion for numbers in all forms, including investing, gaming and statistics. Nothing ever slowed Bruce down, as he was a man on a mission. Known for his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, he had the gift of the gab. Always the life of the party who lived life on his own terms. He will be missed by everyone whose life Bruce touched. The family would like to thank Dr. Schussler, Dr. Zimmermann, Dr Korkola and the nursing staff, especially Dora, at the Regina General Hospital who cared for Bruce during his stay. Their caring yet professional nature provided an environment that was comfortable for Bruce and the family. A celebration of Bruce's life will take place at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK. Flowers are graciously declined; we welcome donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (to which Bruce was a dedicated canvasser), Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, La Leche League Canada and Lakeview United Church.
