I first met Bruce when he joined the Art Department at Sheepshead Bay High School. He was such a joyful person and an incredibly talented teacher. A number of years later, when I became the Assistant Principal of Fine Arts at Edward R. Murrow High School, I was ecstatic that I was able to hire him. I knew that he was working on his books in his spare time and that his goal was to eventually leave teaching, but I didn't realize that it would happen so fast! As pleased as I was about his success, I was devastated at losing such an amazing teacher. We kept in touch for many years until eventually our paths no longer crossed. I am terribly sad to learn of his passing. I still treasure a book he gave me, "It's About Time, Jesse Bear," with his dedication that reads "For everybody at E. R. Murrow, but especially Laurel." I loved working with him, and I think he loved being at Murrow. I'm sending my heartfelt condolences to his family.
