Bruce Gruver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 25 to Apr. 26, 2023.
Gruver Bruce Michael Gruver, age 64, of Leander, TX, passed away on March 17th, 2023, from stage four metastatic lung cancer, which he was recently diagnosed.

Bruce was born in Waterloo Iowa, to John Benton Gruver and Mary Josephine Henchey on July 15th, 1958, who preceded him in death, along with his brother, John Benton Gruver Jr.

Bruce attended Waterloo West High School, and graduated class of 1976. He also graduated from Hawkeye Community College in 1979 for police science, and from there went on to become a Federal Protective Service officer for the Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, IA. In 1982, Bruce then transferred into the United States Postal Service, starting off as a postal clerk in Waterloo, IA. He moved to Texas in 1989, still working for the Postal Service. Starting in 1995, Bruce became the Postmaster of Carrizo Springs, TX. He had been promoted to Postmaster of Marlin, TX (1998), El Dorado, AR (2000), Fort Dodge, IA (2001) and Great Falls, MT (2002). Bruce retired from the United States Postal Service in 2006.

Bruce was a good man. He always tried putting his best foot forward, no matter the situation. He loved life, his children, and his grandchildren. He had a strong love for music, movies, and books. Bruce also had a knack for terrible comedy, making bad jokes every chance he could.

Bruce is survived by his children, Rachael Victoria Gruver-Mason of Austin, TX, John Benton Gruver of Austin, TX, Nathaniel Michael Gruver of Lago Vista, TX, Amazette Iris Gruver of Leander, TX, and Ulysses Samuel Gruver, of Lago Vista, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Clara Lenore Mason of Austin, TX, Adalina Iris Martin and Samuel Dean Martin of Leander, TX, as well as his brother, Scott Bryant Gruver (Marlene) of North Liberty, IA.

Bruce will forever be in our hearts, and will be missed dearly by family and friends
