Bruce McGregor Obituary

McGregor, Bruce G., age 84, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005 after a lengthy illness.

Bruce was a decorated veteran of WWII who flew more than 40 combat missions in the European Theater as a B-26 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war, he was a Cattle Broker for Swift and Co. and proprietor of his own livestock business in Lyndonville. In 1965, he was appointed Postmaster in West Burke by President Johnson, and served in that position until 1987. McGregor also served as Moderator for the town of Burke for 17 years. He was past president of the Lyndonville Rotary Club and an avid bridge player and golfer. He also enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles and reading.

The son of Louise Adele (Allen) and Edward James McGregor, Jr., he was born January 22, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of more than 61 years, Jean L. (Barron) McGregor of West Burke and by son Brian of Putney; daughter Linda Wheeler and husband Walt of Schodack, NY; son Keith of West Burke; daughter-in-law Linda Hale of St. Johnsbury; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a sister, Jean Adele Waltz of Highland, IN. He was predeceased by a son Doug and a brother Don.

A memorial service will be held at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church Friday, February 11, 1:00 PM with the Rev. Joan Vincent officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Burke Hollow at the convenience of the family.

Dear Jean,

I am so sorry to hear of Bruce's

passing. I just found out.

I remember all the good laughs as

a kid going to get the mail,that

Bruce and I had. I also remember

the good 'ol school days with

me, Russell and Doug.

May the Lord wrap his arms around

you and your family.

So sorry to hear about Uncle Bruce. We will all miss him a great deal. I have fond memories growing up and all of you visiting with beds and cots all over the house. And of course playing in the "secret" tunnel in your upstairs. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difiicult days.
