Bruce REDPATH Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jul. 26 to Jul. 30, 2016.
REDPATH, Bruce
October 30, 1949 - July 22, 2016
It is with great sadness and many broken hearts the sudden and unexpected passing of Bruce Redpath. Bruce cut a wide swath during his magnanimous life and there is now a great void where a great man once stood. He was a man of extremes and those who knew him would say that he enjoyed life, worked hard, loved hard and played hard. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his cherished home in Vancouver early on Friday, July 22. Born and raised in East Vancouver, he attended Gladstone High School. He touched and affected many lives over the years; was well known and had many friends, acquaintances, and business associates in the Vancouver community. Bruce was a hard working man who started out as an elevator mechanic and ended up in the restaurant and bakery business. He was a self-made man and through much hard work and determination over the years he built several successful businesses including; Stuarts Bakery in Granville Island, Sprinklers Restaurant, Max's Deli and Redpath Foods. Bruce lived life to the fullest and had a presence that was larger than life and was always a true gentleman. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed many cars and water crafts that were fast and loud including: Viper, NSX, Bentley, Mercedes, and in recent years BMW. In his later years he took up boating and enjoyed high speed Jet Skiing with his friends and could be found on the water on any beautiful sunny afternoon. Also enjoyed spending time on the water in his Baja speed boat which he enjoyed very much. His retirement plans were unfolding for extensive travel and yachting extensively through the Caribbean Islands and to sunny destinations. Sadly that plan was cut short upon his untimely passing. Survived by his loving wife Victoria and children: Tyler, Travis, Carson, Sawyer, Brett, Pierce and stepson Lawson; grandchildren, Lauren and Jack, Mother Peggy and his two special dogs Amber and Nala.

I first met Bruce in 1986 when Vancouver hosted the world's fair. We stayed in his home and he was the most gracious and fun host and really treated us like family. I visited 2 more times and sadly we lost track of each other...yet I think of those visits and time with Bruce quite often and will never forget our time together.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Bruce many years ago. He gave me the confidence to make my own way in the world. He did have a great sense of humour even about himself. He could be deadly serious and goofy with in a few moments of each. Who and what he loved was with intensity like no one else. He adored Tyler so am sure that was extended to his other children.
He won't be forgotten.

Sorrow fills our hearts this sad moment, a sorrow that is deep and personal.

Bruce Redpath, the President and owner of Redpath Foods Inc., Stuart's BakeryLtd., and Granville Island Bakery Ltd., Vancouver, has silently had the door of his temporary life in this world closed and departed from us. So sudden, so hard to believe, but it is real. Yet, it was a beautiful passing, you're gone in your sleep, no sickness, no signs. Just like that.

To me, you were not an ordinary boss. You played a very crucial and important part of my family's life in Canada. If it wasn't you who gave me a golden chance to start my very first job in Canada in 2000, less than three months after we landed in Vancouver, as a manager at your company while I was only applying for the clerical job that was being advertised at that time, I wouldn't be where I am now.
You were always nice and very kind to me, never got mad, trusted me from my first day with all your business affairs, shared your sorrows and pain with me, sometimes in tears. You didn't know how every morning I started my day at work with a short prayer to God that my guardian angel would keep me from any temptation of abusing your trust.
I remember vividly when one day I received an anonymous big bouquet at work which was only revealed who the sender was when you came to the office and lifted me up in joy after you won your case. I only helped you a bit, but the way you showed your appreciation really stunned me. And when finally after eight full years working for you I decided to leave, you were crying and asking me if there was anything you could do to change my mind. Though I kept my decision, you were still very nice to me, kept our relationship alive, always invited me to your special events, both in your company and your personal life. How I treasure this precious relationship, watching your kids and grand-kids growing up from their very young age and had sometimes taught them math and reading when they had to stay at the office.
I could not thank you enough for giving me such a precious opportunity that has led me to my current job, my second job in Canada. And after eight years I left your company and working this job, it's your turn to leave us, but this time we don't know when we will meet again.
Bruce, your passing is shocking me and my family and everyone else in Redpath Foods. A special prayer for you, may our loving God reward your good deeds while on earth with eternal peace in heaven.
Farewell, Bruce. Till we meet again.

My good buddy Bruce, you left to soon. So many good memories of working on your houses and businesses. Memories of watching your beautiful family grow up along the way. Dim sum, breakfasts, and your knowledge of new restaurants won't be the same. I miss you already, Doug

I just learned of Bruce's passing this morning. Needless to say we are shocked and saddened by the news. Bruce was such a genuine person. As a supplier when you did something he did not agree with he certainly let you know, but more importantly he went out of his way to show appreciation for you efforts, and was generous with praise. We At RF send out heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Bruce will be greatly missed.

Bruce definitely worked hard and played hard...he loved his family and was proud of his businesses. He was a very good neighbour and friend to me and my parents. Enjoyed our X-Mas get-together each year. Ambitious, successful and generous. He tried to identify business opportunities to help others succeed. Great sense of humour and a great guy to have in your corner!

Bruce, you'll be missed!
Deepest sympathies & sincere condolences to all your family.

It's been 5 days and i am still shaking my head in disbelief.
I began working for Bruce at Redpath Foods exactly 3 years to the day of his passing. This is the man that hired me, respected me, and ALWAYS praised and Thanked me for the work I do.He was my boss however I am so proud to say that he is my Friend first, Boss second.
I still hear his voice in my head, "Go Home Fab!"
I'll miss that.I'll miss all of him!
I can actually say that he loved me as much as i loved him.
Bruce will be one of those men that will be missed in many ways.
To my friend Tyler, my heart aches for you and your family!
Rest in Peace Bruce!
Love Fabio, Gina, Nadia, Marina and Cole

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Bruce's family and friends. My perspective is unique. Bruce and I were best friends in late high school and first year university during his family's brief residence in Ottawa in the 1960s. I remember his intelligence, smile and great sense of humor and the good times we had together. Though we were only intermittently in touch over the years, as recently as last week we exchanged emails to plan a get-together, as Bruce said, "catching up on the last few decades". Sadly, we won't have that opportunity. I'm sure he will be truly missed.
