I still remember the flames and the smell of the burning fire from under the cash register cabinet of Brazoswood Pharmacy shortly after I went to work there in 1971. I unknowingly dumped an ashtray with a lit cigarette into the trash can. Bruce remained calm while we put out the fire. I was expecting to be fired but wasn't. I guess he felt sorry for a long-haired, wayward teenager.

Bruce and I remained lifelong friends. During my pharmacy years (2), we would sail on his Hobbie Cat at Surfside Beach, where he taught me about sailing. We had a lot of fun, including when the Hobbie Cat broke the mask wire while sailing down the coast. We drifted onto Quintana Beach and began our walk back to Surfside. The Brazos River separated Surfside and Quintana Beach. After locating and tying together some empty milk jugs, we swam the mouth of the Brazos River back over to Surfside Beach. Looking back, it wasn't our brightest idea, but we survived to laugh about it many times.

After Bruce sold his pharmacy and I sold my first restaurant, we became partners in Photo Finish on Dixie Drive in Clute. I sold my interest back to him several years later to pursue more restaurants. We were great partners, as Bruce did all the work, and I remained silent because I had no clue about the operations. I credited all the success to him and Susan.

We remained in contact throughout his life. Occasionally, we would travel to Austin to visit Bruce and Susan and catch up on each other's lives. It was sad to see Bruce decline with his illness and see Susan suffering alongside him as his caregiver.

Bruce will be missed sorely, as I depended on him for his friendship and our many talks and visits. Our love and hearts go out to Susan and his children as we all learn to live without his great smile!

As a teenager, I babysat Bruce and Susan's young children a few times. I remember him driving me home afterwards and paying me. He was always joking.

So many great memories, we would all play every summer at the annual match-play Nacogdoches Country Club golf tournament.
Bruce and I were in the final round together playing against each other, Bruce won first place!
We had many Dove hunting adventures in Mexico and Texas, he was one of the best wing shooters, always won first.
The last Member-Quest tournament Riverside Country Club had, Bruce and I won second place. Bruce shot 73 the final day, lowest score of the tournament.
On my 40th Birthday, we went to Scotland, played the old course, Carnoustie and Bruce won as usual. We met Ernie Els-Beers at the Dunvegan , Bruce developed the pictures and gifted us with them.

Bruce was a giver, witnessed countless times all the people he helped. Instrumental in the Clyde Cone-Kiwanis annual golf tournaments.

He was So proud of his children and grandchildren. I think Logan was his favorite. Just kidding.

You are truly missed and will never forget the memories we shared.

Love the Thorne“s

That smile, it was full of mischief. Bruce enjoyed life, loved his wife and children as much as possible and of course, golf. Good businessman too. Bruce, your missed by many.

It has been many a year since I have seen Bruce. But I will always remember his ability to win at Trivial Pursuit, and even be known to play a game of quarters with us college kids. Susan, you and your family are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love to all!
