After a three month illness at home, Bruce left us peacefully for his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Saviour whom he loved and served faithfully. Bruce grew up in Stratford ON and became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ at age 16. At London Bible Institute he met his beloved wife Joan Amy and married Sept 1, 1951. He pastored at Arthur Baptist while earning his B.A in History from Western University and later received a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. Then to Georgetown's Maple Ave. Baptist, later moving west to Vancouver's Ruth Morton Memorial Baptist. At Stanley Ave. Baptist Hamilton he started Hamilton Baptist Housing which built 161 low income housing units. In 1989 he founded Hamilton Christian Fellowship. Active in his retirement he led small ministry groups, authored 3 books and presented his one man drama over 270 times. Bruce cherished his family and took great delight in seeing it grow to include 10 grandchildren and 20 'great-grands'. He enjoyed gardening, the times spent at his family cottage in Muskoka, the 'Nook of the Woods', and celebratory family events with Joan in their Ancaster home of 50 years. He and Joan hosted endless dinners to friend and stranger alike and led trips to Europe and England, as well as a mission trip to Bolivia, South America. His passion however, was to share his faith with others. He was an effective preacher and teacher of the Bible. He showed love and respect to all he met. He is deeply loved and missed by his wife, Joan of 70 years; children Mark (Shelley), Debbie (Henry), David (Jean) and Sara (John); grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Tribute Service for Bruce will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowlands Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Ancaster.
