Bryan Rhodes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2025.
Gary "Bryan" Rhodes, 68, passed away on August 21, 2025, after a decades-long struggle with kidney failure and complications from diabetes.

Born November 13, 1956, in Pontiac, Michigan, Bryan was raised in Waterford by his parents, Robert and Donna Rhodes, and graduated from Waterford Mott High School in 1974. He spent 20 years as a skilled draftsman in Michigan's auto industry, later working in parts inspections in Wixom. Alongside his first wife of 25 years, Cindy Tear, he raised a family in Commerce Twp., MI. In retirement, he moved to Alma and shared 10 years with his late partner, Vickie Backes, before relocating to Missouri in 2023 to be near his children.

Bryan was an excellent golfer and bowler, a loyal fan of Michigan sports, and especially devoted to the Detroit Tigers. He loved cars, good meals, and conversation, and was passionate about music-teaching himself piano and guitar as a young man and carrying a love of classic rock throughout his life. He was known for his upbeat spirit, sense of humor, and love of laughter.

He is survived by his siblings, Jennifer Feit (Bill) and Marty Rhodes (Tess); his children, Nichole Rhodes, Chelsea Otten (Sam), and Richard Rhodes (Angela); and his seven grandchildren: John, Harvey, Ruth, Rosie, Gino, Maggie, and Rocco, who brought him immense pride.

Bryan's legacy lives on in the laughter and memories of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed. A private memorial will be held in Waterford, Michigan, on November 2, 2025.

My thoughts and prayers go to Bryan and his family. I worked with Bryan at the Budd Co. in Rochester and he worked in the Inspection fixture design dept and was an excellent worker and friend. I knew he had kidney problems in the late 1980's but, that never stopped him. Bryan had one of the greatest laughs too. Bryan will live on through all the great memories that I have and his family! God bless Bryan and his family!

The last couple years were tough, but I was glad to be able to see him a lot more with him here in Missouri. I will miss him during the Lions and Spartans football games this fall.
