GASTONIA - Ben "Bud" Greene, 74, son of the late Willis and Delcie Green, passed away May 16, 2011.

His life journey began on Jan. 15, 1937, in Jackson County.

He soon enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force. Ben worked for Firestone Mills and eventually for himself as a skilled carpenter.
His work found him many friends along the way, of which he served loyally through his dedication to complete every job with perfection. He worked the last 25 years as the maintenance and grounds keeper for Loray Baptist Church. His loyalty there will be remembered affectionately by the many people he served.

Ben is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy Dellinger Greene, his children Darrell Greene, Don Greene and wife Angela, Wanda Scism, David Bowen and 3 grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Greene, and Adam Cotter; sisters, Lorena Carrigan, Meta Oakes, Lessie Bruner, Bonnie Buchanan and Shirley Skinner; and his loving mother in law, Viola Dellinger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd and Earl Green, sisters, Beatrice Bradley, and Gladys Carroll.

There will be a memorial service 3 p.m. Thursday at Loray Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, your donations be made to Loray Baptist Church, 1128 W. Franklin Blvd, Gastonia, NC, 28052.

A private ceremony will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.
