Condolences to the family of Caleb Pirtle, lll. He was an inspiration to so many writers and poets. He
Generously shared his knowledge of writing with the members of the Rusk County Poetry Society in Henderson on several occasions. Though he achieved recognition on a national level, he never forgot the local writers. Sharon Taylor, member of the Rusk County Poetry Society.

I knew Caleb and always liked him a great deal. We crossed paths first in the mid-70s covering various stories in West Texas and later, when he wrote books about several crimes I covered.
He was a good man and a good writer.
He will be missed.

I have listed Caleb as family rather friend. He was certainly a brother to me and my brother, Gary.
Caleb and his father, Jack and mother, Eunice were fellow church members. Before I was born Caleb was Dad's buddy and when I was born Caleb thought he was losing his buddy, Caleb became another brother in our family.
He taught my brother, Gary and me read, write, drive and play the slide guitar.
We had 12 or 13 boys from the neighborhood who came to our home to play sports. Our parents thought of them as family.
Time goes on and I missed Caleb over the years.
He and Linda had never met my wife Carla from Idaho. I was able to introduce them last winter in the Texas theater in Kilgore. This being the last time to see Caleb and meeting my wife seems as an introduction made by a man higher than me.
Caleb touched many lives and certainly will be missed!

A business relationship brought Caleb into my life. We became friends and valued our personal and professional relationship. I am glad that we had an opportunity to get to know each other. In fact, we became business partners and our respect for each other just grew. Caleb was one of the "good guys" and while we didn't touch base as often as we should have we had each other in our thoughts. I will miss him and extend my deepest sympathies to Linda, to his son, his daughter-in-law and his two grandchildren. His life and his memory are a blessing.
