RICHFORD – Rev. Calvin J. Seiferth, age 83, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, May 1, 2004 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following 3 ½ years of being on dialysis.

He was born July 3, 1920 in Windham, NH the son of the late Herman & Sophia (Cleaves) Seiferth.

Rev. Seiferth has been a resident of Richford since 1982 when he was appointed Pastor of the Richford and Montgomery United Methodist Church’s. He also pastored at Johnsburg, Weaverton, Riparius. He also served Troy Conference Churches in Bloomingdale, Vermontville, Jay, Wilimington and Upper Jay (Whiteface) Methodist Church’s in New York; Danville, West Danville Walden, Sheldon, Rice Hill, Westford, Groton, West Topsham, Waits River, Plainfield and Adamant Church’s in Vermont. He retired from the Richford UMC in 1985 and then went back to the Sheldon and Rice Hill Church’s from 1987 to 1996. After 1996 he served as interim pastor at several area churches. He was an organizer of “Trail Camping” for the Troy Conference camping program formerly known as Camp Missisquoi in Sheldon.

He attended Lyndon State College and Johnson State College in Vermont, Boston University School of Theology and Duke University School of Theology, receiving Deacon’s orders in 1964 and Elder orders in 1966. He received in full connection with the Troy Conference in 1971.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWll having served in the Pacific Theater. He also had served in the Civil Air Patrol and held the Rank of Captain in the Vermont Wing. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 12 of Richford.

He is survived by his wife Janet (Knowles) Seiferth of Richford, they were married September 26, 1979; his children, Calvin Justin Seiferth of Pepperell, MA, Malinda Stankiewicz and her husband Chris of Long Island, NY, Farin Harris of Long Island, NY, John Seiferth of St. Albans, Isreal Jeremy Seiferth and his wife, Anne of Newmarket, NH, and James Seiferth and his fiancé Holly Leach of East Berkshire; 5 grandchildren, Fionnuala & Fergal Sieferth, Aubray Stankiewicz, Kianna & Shawn Harris; his sister, Beatrice Hull of Lawrence, MA; 2 nephews, Robert & Wesley Hull. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son, Reed Seiferth.

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Richford United Methodist Church with Rev. Heidi Reinker officiating. In keeping with Cal’s wishes interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. There will be no visiting hours.

So many memories came flooding back to me when my mother called me today to tell me of Capt Seiferth's passing.



It seems like only yesterday we were in that old blue Buick driving down to Swanton for CAP on a Saturday morning...
