Our Brother Cameron Glen Bailey:
Even though over a year has passed by, all of us still miss your kindness, your great sense of humor and the fact that you were a wonderful brother to all of us.
Cameron, you left behind a wonderful legacy of friends who truly enjoyed your companionship. You gave great value to their lives through your friendship. All of us can be reminded of how gracious you were to each and everyone of us, whether as a group or on a one-to-one basis.
True, we will all miss you in our own special way but your memory will always be there for all of us, and of all the good times we shared.
Our love to you always.

My dear friend Cam.
I will always remember seeing your smiling face in Harlingen during the Airshows at the PBY. Working on the aircraft during the day and hanging out swapping stories at the Officer's Club in the evening. Sometimes during the outdoor dinners, there were all those gnats flying around that you used to call no-see-ums. I enjoyed visiting you in Canada. You will be missed...

Cam Bailey was one in a million. He had a heart of gold and a passion for cars that he willingly and frequently shared with me. I first met Cam through his brother John’s apartment residence in Pasadena as I attended Art Center, on the road to my eventual profession as an automobile designer. It was not difficult to get together with Cam on a number of different subjects, but somehow it always ended up coming back to our favorite subject – cars.
But there was so much more to Cam than his mechanical knowledge of cars. He had a kindness and honesty about him that you almost immediately felt. He could make even a complete stranger feel at home. I often watched him at car shows, or local cruise-ins, walk up to a car that needed a great deal of restoration and speak positively with the eager owner. Cam could spin a wrench and fix just about anything on a car, but what he really enjoyed was talking with people about cars. Cam had a great deal of admiration for many of the automotive brands, but Chryslers were his favorite. On this note, we got along famously! At the annual Chrysler show in Van Nuys, CA, Cam would do his best to schedule his lengthy drive down from Canada in time for the show. I marveled at how he could turn mile after mile of highway in his copper-colored four-door Chrysler. There must be over 400K miles on that car by now. Most of them, I would imagine, having been covered with Cam at the wheel.
On one occasion I had driven my Dodge Charger roadster up to Pasadena to share with Cam and later enjoy a car show. But there was trouble under the hood. For some unknown reason, my car would not start. I thought it must be a bad battery, or loose terminals, and went through all the possible reasons. All wrong. Cam had been relaxing on my front porch with his mother politely waiting while I went through my own check. Just as I was heading from frustrated to angry, Cam wandered over to me and smiled. “Ay” he said in his sharp Canadian greeting, “You know what? I carry an extra ballast resistor in my glove box. Always have.” We wandered over to his car and he opened the glove box. He fished through the papers, maps and spare fuses and pulled out a white shaft about 4” long. “This should work. Might want to try mine first and then we can go get a new one at the local parts store.” Two screws and five minutes later – the car started. And that was Cam. Always willing to help, always nice, always hoping there was a moment to have a little bit of fun, may be even tease you a bit, but always with a kind heart.
After graduation, Carolyn and I spent a few years in the Los Angeles area, but eventually moved to Seattle. Cam made his way down to California via Washington one year and we all enjoyed another car show together. Years passed, but holiday letters were always exchanged with a smile and warm memories of great times.
When we lose friends, or members of our family, our hearts long for the days of kindness and joy. When the beauty of a Rose is in full bloom, the color and majesty bring us great pleasure. Though it will wilt and fall from its stem, the sweet scent will forever linger in the air, reminding us of the beauty that was with us even a short time ago.
Our condolences to your family.

Oh, dear friend, Cam!
For a moment, my breath was taken away this afternoon when I saw your beautiful little white car sitting alone in the driveway. Remember when we'd go for a spin with the top down and go for an ice cream cone, or go for a drive around the Highlands, or cruise over to 'Soda Jerks', or 'let her rip' on the highway to wherever.... just for fun! Or we'd take my little TR6 out... just to hear the beautiful sound of that 'burble' that only a '6' has...
Then there was the "Big Spin" on the Edmonton Speedway, where you filmed this amazing 'wild ride' which showed a 'thwap' (oh, yet another 'Cam'ism) on your shoulder from pigtail/braids whipping in the wind, and where you could hear the terrified 'screamer' babbling on, while desperately trying to keep from sliding out the side, and where I think I left permanent fingerprints on your chrome handlebar on the dash, which, by the way, I peeked at today, even though it got a little 'blurry'... Cam, you truly were one incredible driver, and yes, I'll always remember 'the wildest ride of my life'!
Our Mothers both had their birthdays in the first week of November, just a few days apart, and I had a nudge to call you on your Mom's birthday again, as I did all the other years, so a few days later, after getting back into town, I was going to call you ... and you were gone...
Cam, I am so sorry....
Please say hello to your dear Mom when you take her for a spin on the "Great Speedway of the Skies"! She was always such a great sport around your love of cars!
I'm keeping in touch with your 'buds', and I so enjoy listening to them while they chat about their 'classics'! We all miss you!
Thanks for all the great and fun times, and also the get togethers with your family when they'd come up for visits!
You take care, k? and enjoy the 'Great Speedway'!
.... from your little 'screamer' friend...

Dear Cam!
We have known you for a long, long time; and that goes back to the car insurance days in the mid-seventies. We were so pleased that you attended our 60th Wedding Anniversary in August this past summer, and were so sorry we didn't have more of a chat and visit with you.
Just for your family members and friends to know where we fit in the picture of those who knew you, we are Darlene, Daryl and Doug's parents, so it was our whole family that enjoyed having you as our friend.
Our prayers and thoughts are extended to your brothers and sister and their families, and your many friends, as we know you are dearly missed.
We were very fond of you, Cam, so blessings and good bye for now.

I think it's been about 25 years or so since we first came to a club
meeting and, lo and behold, another TR3 owner came forward! Our white
cars were almost clones back then before we did the big 'makeover' on
ours. Cam was so welcoming, full of helpful advice, and he continued to
be there for us until his untimely passing. He was just out to our
acreage in late August to listen and consult in our garage. We will
miss his visits to the restaurant (especially loved it when he brought
his mom in). The sad news prompted us to look through the old photo
albums of our times with Cam. We will miss you, Cam.

Cam's old PBY has been saved by an Australian who bought it from the city of Brownsville. A CAF crew chief is storing it on his property in Austin Texas, it was retrieved the early part of December. 20 years ago Dec 14, 1986 Cam was so excited to see the Voyager take off from Edwards along with myself. We returned nine days later to watch aviation history when it landed without refueling or stopping. It was just one of many great things that Cam introduced and did with me. I'll never forget this. Cam Services are set for Friday, January 19, 2007 in Edmonton, there will be more info on the location soon.

Cameron, my brother, was truly a wonderful friend to all of us. His love of life and tremendous enthusiasm for his cars and travels touched all of us in so many ways. He was interested in all aspects of life and his joy was infectious. His generosity and kindness to his family and friends will always be remembered. He was always there when any of us needed advice and we all will miss him most dearly.
One of my fondest memories was during our European trip in 1968 while we were traveling in Wales in a Volkswagon Van. We happened to see a castle over a hill and we stopped the Van. I dashed out and went down the hill to get a better photo of the castle. It took me about ten minutes to get down the hill and I spent several minutes setting up my telephoto lens and taking a photograph. I must have been gone for a while, for all of a sudden, there was Cameron driving the big VW Van directly off road, right down this huge hill, and his first words were, “Are you okay?” I shall never forget it! We had many adventures together. He was a true friend and a great brother. My wife Carole and I will miss his kindred spirit and his love for our family but I know his presence will be with all of us where ever we may be and someday we will meet again and be rejoined as a family.
Thank you Cameron, for being our brother! Love, Don and Carole

So sorry that it has taken me so long to get to a computer. I do have one. But have not had it hooked up for awhile. I am using my son David's computer in Orange County.
Cameron was my youngest brother, my baby brother. I really believed that my Mother had him just for me. He was the most beautiful little baby I had ever seen. Growing up we had lots of adventures together, trips to the Borden Park swimming pool, story hours at the old Edmonton Library, and movies on Saturday, of course. When Cam returned to Canada in the sixties, our lives took different paths, and I no longer saw him as often. But our hearts were always close. Cam was always himself, a very true, blue person. He attracted many wonderful friends, had amazing, entertaining trips with his cars, and always had an anecdote to relate.
Cam will be greatly missed by all of us, especially his family - we are now only three, instead of four.
Many, many thanks to all those wonderful friends who have been such a blessing to our family at this time. 'Specially Bill (Will) Keith and his wife, Bill Muller, Phil Johnson, Adele (Cam's lovely neighbor), and so many others.
I wish that I could have attended the event last evening. I was thinking of all of you reminiscing about Cam, TR-3's, Fat Albert, trips, etc.
Our hearts are up there in cold Alberta, hard to be so far away at this time.
All our thanks and love to each and every one of you.

Although I didn’t know Cam well, it was always a pleasure to meet him at various shows and other car events. I'll remember him as kindly bloke, I don't remember an unpleasent word from him. Like his TR3 he appeared a little rough round the edges but solid and dependable underneath, and all ways ready for another adventure.

Cam, I can’t believe you are gone. I miss you. I wish so much that we had gone for the coffee we had been promising each other for so long. You would tell me a few of your stories and I would show you some of my pictures or maybe we’d look at a car magazine or two. I saw so much of the open road through your eyes, Cam. The beauty of the wide open spaces you enjoyed on your road trips, the incredible adventures you had going to places far and near. And it was never just the destination you had stories about, but the whole journey. You took joy in every part of the trip, even if your car had trouble or the weather wasn’t co-operating. I was lucky enough to hear all about it when you returned.
I want to thank you for being my friend and mentor. I will never forget the respect and admiration you had for everything and everyone you taught me about. (Or your "Cam-isms" that would inevitably accompany those wonderful stories.) I know that one day you and I will meet again and finally have that coffee, but until then I will make sure my life is “Ukrainian Rowboat” and whenever I see a little TR3A I will think of you.
Best of luck on this next journey,
Miss Jackie

Cam:
38 years ago I walked into the AMA and asked to buy insurance for my MGTC. They told me that they would get their old car expert to help me and I was introduced to the man most enamoured with sports cars that I have ever met. I told you about our MG T-series Sports Car Club and you asked if it would be alright if you tagged along in an old TR3. Thus began our association and friendship. Your presence changed our group even to the extent that we evolved into the Edmonton Classic Sports Car Club.
I am sitting here writing this as I look out on a bright, sunny, winter day with tears overflowing my eyes. I can not believe that your lanky frame and infectious smile are gone. I always marveled at the way you met and greeted new acquaintances with such genuine interest and pleasure. For years I have used you as a role model of how I should treat others that I first meet. I always wanted to tell you that but I never did. I know in my heart, though, that one day we will once again sit on green grass beside our cars and chat about the times we had together. Goodbye my Friend and . . .
Godspeed in Safety Fast

There's too much to say, I am right now living in the past remembering our wonderful trips, including our weeklong trip to the CAF airsho in 1986, dinners and slide shows and that incredible voice that could easily belong on any radio or tv show. Our last phone call was due to the fact that Cam's old PBY is up for sale for scrap in Brownsville, Texas, which is really a total outrage considering the great stories that surrounded that airplane when Cam flew on it to Australia and was a crew member on it for so many years. Normally Cam would cut off a call after a few minutes, but our last conversation of October 25, 2006 was the longest and best ever . He seemed totally serene and afterwards I really had a good, but strange feeling about the call that I can't explain. His last meal out with us was also a blast so I'm so thankful my final memories are pleasant. The ongoing saga of the PBY in Texas, of which news of my uncle has been included in the thread has become a 7 page topic at the WIX forum. The airplane goes up for auction November 27 and I am praying they can save it.
.Cam was always able to tell a great story, his story of his PBY trip, which I have in photos and manuscript form, must be his greatest and is a tribute to his exciting life. I certainly have more to say later. He was a star.

Dearest Cam,
You'll be missed - oh so terribly much. I'll miss your gentle nature and your signature double honk on the horn - always a sign of your departure. I'll miss the friend that you were to my husband Will for these past thirty-some years - always constant and true I'll miss our conversations about the kids on your school bus route and my kids at school. Our common concerns over childhood behaviour both good and not so good and our common school holidays. I could tell you loved driving bus and being in the company of children. Alas we finally had a real common connection other than Will and his TR2.(Not that this wasn't a good thing) Your constant friendship is going to leave our world a little less than what it was.

I have known Cam since I was a child. I remember him stretched out on the grass at Joe's Farm. He was all legs. My brother Steve and I were always underfoot yet he was kind to us and always took time to speak to us. I saw him often as I grew up. He would come to my Dad's place or I would see him at car club events. When I bought my Triumph I remember saying to Dad, "Won't Cam be surprised." Most recently, I saw him at my first planned event for the club. I was so glad he came, and told him so. I gave him a big hug and told him how much it meant to me that he came and in the Triumph. I wanted to make him and other members I knew as a child proud. The last time I saw him was a few weeks ago, in my rearveiw mirror, driving the Triumph. I told my kids, "Cam is behind us in the Triumph!" They waved... I hope he saw us.
I will miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Cam only a few years ago but we became fast friends. I particularly enjoyed our joint drive to Portland in July 2005, Cam in his white TR3 with his Tilley Hat protecting his head during the rain showers while Jim Briggs and I were comfortable and dry in my P1800 following Cam along the Columbia River. You will always be remembered!

When I joined the Sports Car Club in the early '80s Cam was one of the first friends I made. Throughout the years he also became a good friend to my wife and first son Harry Jr. Cam never restrained himself from helping a friend, giving valuable advise, or relating a great story. Although I left Edm. in 1993 I was happy to renew our friendship on a return visit a few years ago. I'm sorry he will not be around when I return to Edmonton next spring. Good friends are worth more than almost anything and he was one of the best. He has gone on ahead on a road trip we all will make and is waiting for us in a sunny spot at the end of a winding road.

Enthusiasm, I remember Cam’s enthusiasm, whether it as talking about the full size AVRO Arrow replica or his converting the Triumph to Minilites from Wires. The stories he’d tell about his travels with his friends in his cars sounded so good, even if they broke down or half froze or broiled.. didn’t seem to matter. I even remember that he liked the MGRV8 that he drove on his trip to Australia. Admiting that to a MG person, that was something. We’ll all miss that enthusiasm, Thanks Cam..

Nothing like a good garage tour to bring a smile to Cam's face. ff
