My condolences to the family of Mr. Camille Gravel. A great man and a kind one. Who did a lot for me. Just sitting around talking and his name came up again. May God bless him and keep him.

Today, many people will pause to contemplate and celebrate the life of Camille Gravel, a man who touched so many lives. He was brilliant, talented, and astute in politics, but what ultimately made him memorable was that he was genuine and universally courteous. He was a close friend of my father, DeWitt T. Methvin, Jr., who has been waiting three months for Camille to join him in whatever Lawyer's Paradise might be. (Hmmm, on second thought, let me change that to simply "heaven.") Whenever his name came up in conversation, my Dad always made it clear that he held Camille in the highest esteem. I met Camille on many occasions, and grew up with (and was taught by) some of his children. When I was working my way through law school in Washington, D.C., I cannot count the times my boss, Congressman Gillis Long, consulted with Camille on this or that issue. Until a comprehensive biography is written, the myriad threads of Camille's life and the degree to which he influenced his city, state, and country will not be fully known. Suffice it to say that we have lost a man of great ability and great heart. My sincere condolences to the Gravel family.

Truly a giant has fallen. I was introduced to Camille by my Mother, the late Lucille May Grace in 1952. She told me in the introduction that Camille was one of the brightest men she had met. We developed a friendship over the years, and I came to admire him like my Mother did.
Ann and I were friends in Washington, D. C. in 1960, Tommy Antoon and I have been friends for years. We worked together on the Kennedy Campaign and the Morrison Campaign. He was a leader, a kind man, a generous man and one that I truly enjoyed.
My sympathy to Evelyn, Ann and all of the Gravel family.
